Our company purchased gifts for our big clients. A few of them returned the gifts saying they were not allowed to accept gifts from vendors. The gift's value is approximately $200.00 each and they are not returnable.

Raffle them off at a christmas party or donate them to a local charity that can use them in a similar raffle to raise money.

I think a raffle is a great idea. How many employees work for the company? If you have a lot, tickets can be sold for $1 each or 6 for $5 or something like that. Proceeds can go to charity like the first responder said.

Or, depending upon what they are, they can be given to a shelter or to a local social agency. The agency can raffle them off. The company gets a tax write off.

To avoid ugly marks on their audits, and in light of the last five years of publicly denounced white-collar crime, companies are taking great lengths to make sure they don't get themselves in trouble.

The first thing you should do is talk to your finance office/business office. These purchases should not have gotten past them in the first place. All gifts over $5 are usually required to go through finance because they have to be reported and taxes must be paid on them. Ask them what they suggest. They will have to handle the purchase, return or sale, and sale monies in their records.

Here are some suggestions for disposing of your items (Disclaimer: please check with your finance, hr, or legal department before continuing with any action in this regard)
1) Ebay/craigslist/classifieds
2) Giveaways at a company Christmas party
3) Awards to outstanding employees
4) Make them gifts to charitable foundations or organzations
5) Use them in your own offices
6) Keep them for use at company functions as giveaways throughout the year.

Good luck!

Your company could raffle them off within the office, donate them to a hospital benefit to be raffled off or they could just be donated to those in need.
