Since you ask about dependability of used vehicles.
I've taken the liberty to copy one of my previous answers about reliability (J.D. Powers & Assoc)

So go with the Toyota & you'll be able to spend more time in it.
As opposed to the Nissan which will be "in the shop" more.

The Toyota w/ the V8 would be the most reliable. The 4.0 V6's had some problems when they first came out, but it appears they have been rectified. The Toyota also feels a little higher quality, but of course costs a little more.

New Nissan models have been troublesome (hence the reason a Japanese manufacturer is below average) the last few years (Titan, Armada, Quest all had a lot of problems). The Pathfinder so far has an average reliability rating, and the previous model was above average, so things are looking up.

It would seem you want a truck based SUV, and not a unibody, else I would say look at a Pilot.

I personally recommend the Toyota 4Runner. But if you are wanting to compare the vehicles side by side, go to www.cars.com and click on "Research". Enter in the first vehicle that you want to know about and there will be a link in the upper right hand corner that says "side by side comparison" or something to that effect. Click on it and enter in the second vehicle of choice. Both vehicles will be shown on the same page side by side for an easy comparison.
Good Luck,
