Everyone is a different place in their journey and everyone is where they are supposed to be. This is one reason for so many different religions in the world ... to accommodate everyone. Just as a first grader cannot flourish in a third grade environment, neither can a tenth grader thrive in a college environment.
Everyone is attracted to the belief system where they will learn the most for their particular place in time. When they have extracted everything of value from that system, they will begin to question it, and move on to the next.

The reason why I believe in the Bible is because it's accurate. It's also considered to be the earliest history book. How about asking yourself how the world began and see if u either believe in Creation or evolution. Christianity is also the only religion that is not proven wrong. People may have theories, but it has never been proven wrong. All other religions have however. If you really want to learn about the Bible or Christianity, I suggest doing some research and read the Bible. Although, before u read it, know that some of the Bible passages are not always literal. It has figurative and metaphorical language in it that require u to think, so don't misunderstand the passages. You should also try reading "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis. I agree with that one guy who said, "In order to understand the truth, you must read the truth." Obviously, I'm a Christian myself, so good luck reaching a decision.

The reason so many people buy into the bible and its God is laziness and fear.
Laziness because they are going by what other people, (Preachers, Priests, or Evangelists) tell them the bible says or what God thinks of this or that. How can any human know what a pink monkey (God) thinks of anything?
Fear because if they do not believe / claim to believe (Be a member of the correct religion / church) then this loving God will condemn them to an eternity in a lake of fire.
We are also told as children that we are to respect authority figures and this idea is carried over into religion. Most people have the attitude that you can not question God. That God can do whatever God wants because God is God. This is a might makes right philosophy!
This mindest is akin to saying Hilter or Sadam can do anything they want because they were the ruling power for that country at one time! This makes no sense at all! When someone like Hilter or Sadam is sadistic and brutal we say they are evil. When a God behaves in ways that make these men look like absolute saints Christians say that God is all good and loving!
Logic and common sense does not apply when it comes to the pink monkey of religion!
When people wake up and think for themself we may actually see wars and violence end! How much longer will we have to wait????

I would have to agree with you because the bible is just a story with no evidence to support it, yet people worship these stories. Noone even thinks that maybe Jesus was simply a man and the first person to introduce reforms towards the society he lived in like Martin Luther King. Jesus may have not been Godly in any way, but instead a man who was simply trying to do the right thing to make his era better.I do not know why people live their lives by the bible it is almost like not living at all.And I agree that the bible is sexist, but suppossibly the Holy Grail may have been a women. The bible portrays women as weak, liars, manipulators, and pretty much the root of all evil, and I dont know about you but I am tired of it...

you ramble a lot don't you.
Jesus was exactly like the messiah was to be. His nationality was exactly what it was supposed to be.
No one of this day and age will be able to lay claim to being messiah and prove it. Not one Jew can trace their lineage back to King David. So no other Messiah can come forth with the claim to be the Savior. That's one way they knew Jesus was the Messiah, was through lineage.
You talk about the positive outlines in life. now you say it's out dated. let me ask you, when did positive things become outdated?
Those things you mentioned in history are not the only times you hear of religion, God or the bible.
There is no Heresy in the bible, only in your words.

The bible was here before our time. You read many biographies in our time and believe in what the person is writing so what make us think that the bible is not a true biography just not in our time.
I believe! When I asked the question how do I know there is a God the answer wa you just believe!
I will talk about God and not only when any of those things you mentioned.
Man/woman makes their own choices, and it is up to us to follow Gods plan.
I have expierenced, for myself Gods healing, and wittnessed other who have followed what God asks for.
I was healed of a deep depression at the moment of prayer. Went from upper and downers to absolutly no meds at all. I know a family member who committed suicide going off her meds.
My son who makes little money to survive on tithes with his church and he is still able to make his car payments gas and all that he needs to survive the month. He admits that as long as he follows Gods plan he will always have what he needs and he does.
Like I said it is our own choice to whether we believe and follow Gods plan. I am a happier person.

People believe in the Bible because they are taught to. Some will abandon it and search out answers for themselves, but most don't.
Although I don't have a Bible, I am familiar with it and don't see how it is classist, racist, or sexist. One of the commandments was to honor your mother and father (mother first) and another was that you shall not covet your neighbor's wife. Further, many of the main characters in the Bible were women.

First, the vast majority of people who call themselves Christians know pitifully little about the bible. They listen to carefully chosen snippets from their clergy and never have to reconcile the parts of the bible where god sanctions rape, torture, mass murder (including women and children), human sacifice etc. Secondly, they know little or nothing about the true history of the bible, and thirdly they are blissfully ignorant of the vast storehouses of scientific knowledge which render invalid many of the reasons they believe in god (and by association, the bible) When they say they "believe" in the bible, it is not out of conviction because they have thoroughly researched the subject and possible alternatives and used reasoning to come to a conclusion, it is because they feel they have nothing to lose by saying it. Some of us are educated enough on any or all of those three points to be categorical in our denial of the validity of the bible but the rest of us are telling ourselves "even if there is only one chance in a million there is life after death I'm not going to risk blowing it"

The bible *is* filled with problems, but it's a holy scripture. The reason why it is still kept alive is because it is the closest witness we have to the events that began Christianity. We'll never have another witness like this until we meet God face to face.
Unfortunately, this means that the bible can be misused. It's misquoted in hate, oppression, and prejudice. It's used by evangelists to inspire fundamentalism. All these things are horrible.
Some people cling to fundamentalism because it's the only way they can make sense of this world. That's the best answer I can give to your question. In order to have hope for a better life after this one, they have a simple faith that tells them that every single word in the book is true, whether they understand it or not.
All I and those like me can do is educate and try to reverse the damage, but I can't give up the bible in the process.

That's like asking why so many believe in the Quran, or in Buddhist scriptures (whose name escapes me), or in the Torah, or even in the book 'The Spiral Dance'. You won't get an easy answer. Sufficed to say that the Bible clarifies faith for many--I don't think it was ever meant to dictate faith, but to help guide the faithful to find their own answers. The fact that it is used to dictate faith today means it is being grossly misinterpreted, much like any book can be when placed in the hands of a person who sees only what they want to see. For example, I doubt that Karl Marx would have approved of either Soviet or Chinese communism; both are interpretations of marxism, not true marxism. I think any book that seeks to clarify an idea can be equally misused.
