Chickens will start eating their own eggs many times .Usually this is caused from people feeding them eggs and egg shells . Although it might be a good source of calcium and things for producing eggs The results from doing it is ,chickens starting to eat their eggs .I don't recommend feeding them eggs or egg shells .There are plenty of things to supply them with nutrients they need without feeding them eggs or shells

ALL Birds like to eat Egg and Egg shells, just as they also like to eat cooked (not in oil) chicken or turkey flesh.. Sounds gross i know but its a GREAT source of Protein for them and eating the shells is a great source of Calcium for them =)
I breed birds and make an egg mix up for them all especially when they have young as its easy to digest, great for them and they go absolutely BONKERS over it..

Some chickens get 'hooked' on the taste of their own egg yokes and egg whites. All hens need to eat their shells of their eggs, because it provides the nutrition for their next egg. You can supplement egg shells for oyster shells, however, egg shells work better.

chickens will eat anything that appeals to them. My chickens love to dig through fresh cow poop! I have to gather eggs as soon as I hear the chickens cackling or the other chickens will eat the eggs.

They more calcium in their diet. Crushed oyster shell is a good source.
