Atheists believe in commercialism and cocktails....

Because for Jews Jesus is not the messiah. Muslims Jesus was only a prophet and the Jehovahs Witnesses dont celebrate anything . Christmas now is so commercial Christ doesnt really seem to be the reason any longer. In a way Christmas is a pagan holiday anyway. If we go way back we will see all that we associate with Christmas is not of Christ but of the winter Solstice holidays the Romans celebrated. Sorry have to go dont have time gotta watch the baby Peace out...............

I think atheists celebrate Christmas because the significance of the holiday has outgrown its religious roots. Christmas has come to signify a generally time where people behave selflessly to make mankind better. Christianity, though holding generosity in the highest regard, hardly as a monopoly on it.

You be wrong if you think Christmas is not celebrated
by the people whose religions or faiths are different then Christianity..I for one am not a christian ..but i will celebrate.. all my family and friends ..through out my community ...we will all celebrate..
You will be surprised.. if you was to visit ..factory's ..offices..shops ,,any many other work places..almost every one will be celebrating when the Xmas parties are laid on ....why dose Jews lay on Xmas parties for the staff ..Muslims do the same thing..

It is only celebration...eat drink and be marry..afterwords
you can read your Holy book..or do what ever it is that you do

Because it's a commercial holiday meant for giving and recieving presents. We've been celebrating winter holidays long before chrisitianity ever existed, christians decided to make the 25th the "birth" of christ since they don't even know when he was supposedly born. They did it with the purpose of attracting many pagan tribes into the religion that would not have joined without any winter holiday to celebrate.

Jews and Muslims see Christmas as a religious holiday, (many) atheists don't.

We prefer to celebrate national Present Giving Day, where we show the people close to us that we love them (yes, Atheists can love, strange world huh?) as well as atolerance for their religious beliefs. When children are concerned we don't wish to enforce our beleifs on them and allow them to celebrate the holiday like other children so they will not be ostracised and pelted with rocks.

It is a social event, a reason to get together with family and an excuse to drink a little too much egg nog.

Besides, celebration of the winter solstice is way older even than Judeism. Maybe it connects us with our ancestors

because most atheists, while not christian, have a christian background and therefore a family christmas tradition that is hard to break free of. jews, muslims, and JWs don't have a christmas history.

To celebrate the solstice, the original pagan holiday that all of the other religions hijacked for their own purposes.

Besides that we are forced to take a day off on your holiday.

Christmas is fast becoming a secular holiday. The only reference to Christ is the root word. What do Santa, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, the Grinch, etc. have to do with Christmas at all.

It is still a time of good cheer and thinking of your fellow man, so why do you want to exclude us? We want Christmas bonuses and the day off too.
