Did the Apostle Paul Expect to Go to Heaven?
"For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you" (Philippians 1:23-24).
Is Paul saying in these verses that he wants to depart from earth and be with Christ in heaven? What did he mean when he expressed his desire to be with Christ?
Before focusing on what this scripture says, let's notice what it does not say. It does not say when or where Paul would be with Christ if he departed. Nor is there any reference to heaven in these verses. To conclude otherwise is to read assumptions into Paul's words.
When writing to the Philippians, Paul was struggling with two desires. He wanted to depart this life and be with Christ, but he also wanted to remain with God's people. In his second letter to Timothy he speaks dogmatically; he knows the end of his physical life is near, and he is ready to depart: "For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing" (2Timothy 4:6-8).
Here we learn what Paul means by being "with Christ." He understood that he was not to receive his reward immediately at death. Instead, there was laid up for him
a crown of righteousness that he would be given "on that Day" of Christ's appearing, at Jesus' second coming. As Paul noted, Jesus will bring Paul's reward with Him. Paul will receive it at that time, not before, along with all others who will be resurrected at Christ's return.
"Behold, the Lord GOD shall come with a strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him; behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him" (Isaiah 40:10; see also Revelation 22:12).
Paul explained to the Corinthians: "Behold I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed-in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed" (1 Corinthians 15:51-52).
Paul knew he would receive his reward at Christ's coming: "For we all must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad" (2 Corinthians 5:10).
The time from Paul's death until his resurrection will seem to him but a mere moment. He will be with Christ and will be a glorified son of God in the next moment of his consciousness. No wonder Paul, weary of his sufferings in this life, desired to depart and be with Christ.

Heaven is a small walled off place in the afterlife that is limited to only Christians, they couldn't stand it if they found out that the rest of us go to the big party in the sky too. Oh and by the way, we have all the neat stuff, all the Christins get to do is look holy and sing hosanas for eternity. How boring.

To know yourself is to know your God. It stands to logical and spiritual reason that as you change so does your God or your views of God. A good place to start is beliefnet.com or your search engine. You will get answers and support, no matter what belief you are. If you can differentiate between religion and belief, You are growing. Never question where or how a good heart came to be, just accept that it is. I'm celtic reconstructionalist.

Jesus said be ready for you know not when your master cometh. I can't judge at what point He would let go of someone who didn't want Him any more. I'm sure He would be patient for a long time but it's best to always stay close to Him. There's where you'll be the most peaceful and happy anyway.

I'm on the fence about that one. It's called the once saved always saved theory. I think that once your relationship with Christ is diminished it's gone. However, your name is still written in the book of life. I dont know. No one knows. It's one of thoses things that we wont know until we meet Jesus face to face. God bless you.

There is no such system. There is no god so stupid and blind as to create beings and instill them with urges, desires, a seeking mind, and a feeling heart, then slap them down when they attempt to express their nature. To believe in such is insane; what I know in my deepest heart when I go into meditation and prayer; when I walk all day at work, declaring my faith and love for the God I know, and "His" perfect, unconditional, infinite, love...what I know is that I am beloved of God, as are you, and the Christian, the Muslim, the Jew, the atheist...but not as these things, not as their religions, or lack thereof, but as they...as we...actually are, beneath the masks we wear to hide from "Him", and one another, and ourselves.

There is nothing from which to be saved.

Try it and then ask...

There is a time coming when we will all have to stand at the Great judgement seat of Christ and give an account for our time on earth.

God only knows,He does say in the word of God there will be some who on that day say father father,and he will say depart from me I never knew you.If you do not believe in God any more you need to search yourself as to why.If the cost to follow Christ is to much for you to pay,either socially or,emotionally,or for what ever your reasons.God wants a willing heart,not one that he would manipulate ever that's not the heart of God for his children.He is not interested in luke warm followers according to the bible.What keeps you away from Him,he loves you no matter what.He never abandons his children,but we abandon him,then blame him for leaving us.Be blessed and loved

That question can be answered by asking another question.

Suppose you were friends with someone, and you received all sorts of good things from that friend because of that friendship.

Now, if you were to break off the friendship and go your own way, would you still expect to receive the same good things from the ex-friend?

2 Timothy 2:11-13 NIV
11Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with him,
we will also live with him;
12if we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
13if we are faithless,
he will remain faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.

I really don't know for sure, but note the latter part of verse 12.

Revelation 3:5
He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels.

Blessings.
