Hey! I'm 21 and I'm starting to get really bad migraines. My mom has has bad migrains since I can remember and hers are so bad that when she has one all she can do to make it go away is to get in a dark room and go to sleep. Many doctors have done alot of studies on her and they still dont know what's wrong. Could I be getting my mom's migraines, I'm scared b/c I know how many and how bad my mom's get and mine seem to be getting worse, do parents pass down that sort of thing to thier kids??

I dont mean to scare you, but migraines are genetic. Meaning you could end up with your mom's migraines. I'm sorry.
But your migraines may be environmentally related. I recommend you keep a log to find your triggers. Triggers are things that cause a migraine to arise. For example, certain foods or smells can cause a migraine. For me Skittles are a trigger. I also recommend getting massages to help release stress and toxins.
Good Luck

I tend to think that it's possible that migraines or other ailments might not be genetic per se, but the reaction to pain is learned. If you grown up with a parent to takes to their bed with a sick headache, I believe that your own mind will process the head pain in the same way. Kind of like if your mom would talk about how horrible her monthly pain was, you would assume that your own cramps were really really bad- you learn that, whether you feel it or not. That's just my non-scientific non-medical opinion.

In some cases migranes can be genetic, but in most cases it is caused by some outside force, you should get that checked out though because if they are often occurances they may take a look at what you can do to stop them.

Could be all of the above. Usually foods and hereditary. You should keep track of the foods you eat and pin point which types of foods give you migraines.

There is evidence that a propensity to migraine headaches is hereditary. Sorry.
