If Jews, Muslims or Christians were portrayed in movies and in TV as incorrectly as witches continue to be, many people would be screaming about religious bigotry.

Why are we allowing this double standard to continue? Surely it's time to show people that we're not the "Charmed Ones", nor do we worship the devil (or believe in one), use evil magick or possess the ability to turn people into frogs!

Because unlike most religion Wiccans, Druids etc doesn't need validation. People are normally the ones to seek out this spirituality. Not because Mommy and Daddy, Not because people are knocking at the door, Not because of anything but knowing that this is what feels right. Those who seek shall find. Well Islam while it hasn't had the misrepresentation of Witchcraft in fiction and television it IS as misunderstood and has as many negative connotations, perhaps becasue few people are willing to portray it accurately as they can't help but offend somebody.

Perhaps this is the same today with Witchcraft, would any portrayal get a green light from American producers as well as a thumbs up form the Wiccan community for an unbiased accurate presentation?

People are screaming about bigotry, yourself for one, but you might need to make more of an effort to let your issue get out there. Do some work to spread some awareness, talk to your political representative, he wants your vote. Start newsletters or attend county fairs if you want, something like "I'm a Witch, and I'll answer your questions on ANYTHING" and see who comes to your stall.

Make a pro-active stance, get involved if you really want change.

Why not cast a spell on us? Just kidding. If you feel your religion is misunderstood by the ignorant masses, you are in good company. I think everybody feels that way. The best thing you can do is to try to explain to people the real deal when you get the opportunity.

Do you not realize that there is a lot of education and "public relations" being done on behalf of Wicca (I'll specify Wicca as opposed to Witchcraft because to me Witchcraft includes a broader spectrum of practices)?

Just because we don't picket the opening of Mel Gibson movies doesn't mean we aren't changing the public perception of Wicca on a daily basis.

I think Satanism is very misunderstood as well as a few others.
I let my behavior speak for who I am. What others "think" about my religious preference is of little consequence at this time in my life.

There are many religions that are misunderstood equally with Wicca and other pagan paths. Just ask a Muslim...

Maybe its because witches are so hard to understand in the first place... Then they wouldn't be misunderstood.
