i want to buy a hard drive camcorder. what are the importent features to look for.forexample optical zoom etc.

If it really suits you, then get one. But you might as well get a dvd cam or miniDV cam depending on what your looking for. Video on HDD cams are compressed the same as DVD cams, and even though you "wont have to buy media," you will still need to burn them to disk to watch. If you like ease of use, go for DVD cams. If you like being a little more creative and editing your videos, then go for miniDV. Basically, just look for something that has good optical zoom usually 12-15X or above is enough. However dont buy just based on zoom. Also look for optical stabilization, some manual controls, 3ccd (if in your price range), a mic port (if you have $100 to dish out for a mic), and manual white balance (almost every camera should have this, but just to make sure, ask). don't. but a dvd camcorder.
you get all recorded vidz in raw format and it is easier to edit.
