that stuff is just as old, if not older, and is still around today, and is quite popular. why isn't that considered true and real? it has the same principals, morals, fantastic tales, etc, it's good folk tales, like the bible, yes?

uhhh

1.) Just because something is old, it doesn't have any real veracity

2.) The Bible has been said to be fiction for 100's of years. Well, it continues to be proven correct, for example, the city of Ur. That was supposedly a myth city and was central to the bible is bull claim of the age, until they found it....

3.) Prophecy, you can balk all you want, the Bible has predicted things that have happened. Most clearly, that Israel would be reconstituted as a nation IN ONE DAY and that they would speak their "native" language again... 1948 the United Nations basically CREATED ISRAEL and it happened overnight... And the jews came back and spoke hebrew... WHERE HAS THAT EVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN HISTORY????

There are more and more examples of prophecy in the bible coming true just as starkly as the above.

Also, the Bible does not gloss over human frailties or mistakes. If David had an affair, it reports it, even though David is considered a very important religious figure...

It is unique in history. It hasn't been changed. When the Dead Sea Scrolls were found and they unrolled the ISAIH scroll, which is 1,000 years older than the oldest texts we had, they said the same thing... WOW.

I don't think that is actually the argument.

Some of the ACTUAL reasons people trust the bible is that its texts are more numerous than any other historical text of that age. Hannibal crossing the alps has far less documentation (uin the thousands of documents) than does the new testament. The new testament copies are closer in date to their original author than any other historical document, period. The given accuracy between the copies and the originals is extremely high. Whereas the plays of certain greek writers are separated by more than 500 years from the original and an accuracy rating about 60%, the New Testament, is separated by only 100 or 200 years and the accuracy rating is more than 95%.

But that is not the whole of it. To answer one of the answerers, it is very easy to read the bible end to end and trust what it says. Living out my lilfe in faith of Christ, has had a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge impact on me. I am much more loving and kind.

To be sure there are christians who are not. But then we are all human and not perfect. The difference really is very little between christian and non christian as far as behavior. The big difference is that christians accept the forgiveness of God.

Every other religion (and non religions) tell people that have to work it off, do better, pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Christianity says, enough with trying to be more than you are. Only God has the solution to evil. It must be put in His hands by trust, faith.

This is not the kind of thing that man would "make up" because man would actually make up the idea that one must do it oneself.

Have a good one.

'That stuff' is older.

Christianity isn't necessarily correct.

The only thing I consider 'true' are the basic ideas almost all religions consider true: there is 'something' (a god), don't hate, etc. If those ideals are so widespread, and shared by cultures that have only made contact in recent history, there must be some truth to them.

Religion is just how you chose to respect and deal with those morals and ideals. Why not believe in Norse gods?

Bible......

"Sorry if the following answer offends you, in anyway directly, or indirectly. I have nothing against Christians, I just want to lay down the truth infront of them. And again sorry"

I don't think there is anyone that has read the whole bible with full understanding to it, that's still a chrisitian.... because how can someone read the whole bible inside out and still be a chrisitian when it has many contradictions and lies? [sorry if your offended]

Apart from contradictions....what do you call these?

paple. er I mean people are stupid generally. They need to be told what to do and how to act..can't think for themselves... if you know your bible history forensically speaking you'd have your answer. it has been changed, pages deleted, stories twisted.. example.. Maray Magdolene was no whore.. she was married to Jesus.. She's in the Last Supper right next to him. the fact they are leaning away from eachother is a clue and symbolic.. it is the goddess.. care to guess why they can't find the holy grail?...lol.. if you're lucky you see one every day... and it is beyond value indeed

at some point in time, christianity, islam and even judaism will be relegated to the same category as norse religion, greek religions, egytpian et al...it will be dead religions and mythology that kids will be studying in history class

Good point. And what about Roman mythology? The bible is merely Christian Mythology. Why is it any different than the rest?

The Bible is true because it is the word of God who does not lie. It has nothing to do with how long that word has been around.

Love it! Love it! Love it! Oh, I love it when morons throw out some dumb statement and then ask a question as if the statement is true. OK. Your first statement isn't true, so your question has no validity.
