First of all, it is unfortunate that your family is having to deal with a loss. I am sorry, and hope that everyone's emotional needs will be taken care of as well. As for financial, there are different programs for every state, but you will certainly be able to seek assistance. Google your state name along with DHS, which stands for department of human services, and that should take you to a government site which you will be able to locate which programs are available to you. Also, you can call (411) information, or look in the phonebook and call your local DHS, and they will mail you the necessary papers and/or make an appointment with you. You should be able to receive food stamps, free school lunch and breakfast, medical and dental, and possible cash benefits on his behalf. You mentioned you were on social security, that would actually be a great place to start. They will have the necessary information. Also, if the child is going to be put into your custody, it is very probable that he will receive a check from s.s. which stems from your eligibility. Start making calls now, and letting them know you want anything and everything that you can possibly receive, and don't stop calling until you get what you need. That's what I pay my taxes for! Good luck with everything!

Mr. Wallace, you and your wife will need to contact the state welfare office. Your grandson should be able to draw a check from Social Security till he reachs 18. Contact the social security office too.

You are going to be on the phone a lot, and make sure that you have a copy of his shot records, his birth certificate, your daughter's death certificate, social security card. You are going to have all these documents to get any help. The welfare office will set up a time for you to come and see him. You will need to bring proof of income for all members of the household, copies of your bills, social security cards for everyone. You may can contact Social Security by phone, be prepared for a long wait on the phone, but it will be worth it. But since you are all ready on it, you know how busy they are.

My prayers go out to your family, a lost of child is something that must horrible beyond belief. Your grandson is lucky to have you and your wife, and I hope he's able to make the life altering changes without too many problems.

God bless us all............

ps. my Dad's a vet too. Thank you for help taking care of us and keeping us safe here

First of all let me say you have my deepest sympathy on the passing of your loved one. Contact the department of social services. They will also work with you. You also need to contact social security to see if the child qualifies for death benefits. I wish you luck. There are many departments out there that can help you. It will take alot of paperwork and time on your behalf, but you are already taking the most important step and that is opening your heart and home to this child in need. God Bless you.

I would contact your local city or county to see what programs are available to you for your grandson. If you haven't been given official guardianship, you will need to hire an attorney to help you thru that process. Even though you sound as though you're having a rough time, it's a blessing for your future. Be good to one another. HUGS

For food, see www.angelfoodministries.com
Look up the city where you live. You can get
$60.00 worth of meat and food for $25.00.
You must order the month ahead for pick-up
the following month. They also accept food stamps.
