In a study, there was actually a gene isolated that was called a gay gene, but its validity was not completely proven. This gay gene, when present in a person, would slightly increase their desire to have sex with men. The gene is present in both men and women. Men with this gene may have no shown tendency toward homosexuality, but may be considered more likely to become homosexual than men without the gene. Women with the gene may have a slight increased desire to have sex with men as opposed to women without the gene. We would know if there was undeniable proof that every gay man had this gene, but to date we lack this proof
Also, this gene theory does nothing to support or explain lesbianism. It is not even strong enough to scientifically prove a genetic reason for homosexuality in males.
Genes aside, perhaps we should look to the animals and see why it is that some of them stray from heterosexual behavior and/or come to homosexual behavior naturally. This could give us a clue to abnormal yet natural animal behavior where biology has not been able to effectively explain.

Why does anything you don't understand have to come from a moron?
There is no such thing as a "gay gene," and no *scientist* has ever claimed there was. There HAVE been studies that show some particular gene combinations that are present in homosexuals more often than not, but that is suggestive of a genetic link, not indicative.
There are studies going on that are looking at several factors that can influence sexuality, and research continues. Just like any other human trait, it's most likely that a combination of lots of genetic factors along with some other factors will likely turn out to be a good indicator of sexuality...but like any other complex human behavior, there will always be a number of factors involved.
None of the above, by the way, indicates in any way that homosexuality is a conscious choice...

Most homosexuals and most scientists believe sexual orientation has a genetic factor, and they agree that orientation is fixed between the ages of 3 and 5.
No "homosexual gene" has been found yet, nor has a "heterosexual gene". It's probably a combination of genes.

right, so you were BORN heterosexual and you didnt CHOOSE to be straight, and its just who you are, but there is no gene for determining your sexuality? then what the hell is?(it doesnt have to be one gene, it might be a combination of genes)

You don't make sense, look:
"Is there a gene for heterosexuality? No!"
"I was born heterosexual, I did not choose my sexuality, it is just who I am."
So... you were born heterosexual, but it's not in your genes? What the hell is it, then? You're contradicting yourself. Please tell me you're bright enough to see that, at least.

wow. not ony did you manage to insult homosexuals across the nation, you also managed to make yourself look like a mean, viscious bigot-all in the same question. the whole point of this site is people helping other people, not people complaining and being insulting and rude.

The fact is that there are twins with separate sexual orientations. many wish to say that you are born with your sexual orientation perhaps so they can say it can not be sin if I was born this way and that point is also moot. We are all born with a sin nature and it matters not which is our sin of choice all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and it is the reason why God offered himself as a sacrifice for our sin that whosoever accepts his atonement will not perish but have everlasting life. He alone is our salvation.

It may play a role. I wouldn't count it out until there is a scientific consensus one way or another.

everything is in your genes. its kind of similar to the common condition that people with epilepsy are often highly religious...moreso than normal.
so maybe religion is really a mental illness

Most likely someone who is repressing their homosexuality.
Someone who got sent to one of those "Gay Concentration Camps" and turned out to be "heterosexual" afterward.
