I don't believe in a god and I was wondering what those who do think about this question. We all know there are a lot of religions out there who all have their own philosophies and 'guidelines'. So then whose going to heaven and who to hell? (Besides me going to hell.)

I think that everyone who worships a God is worshipping the same God. If a person is praying to a God, then that God is most likely real and the same shared God. Which is why it doesn't make sense for religions to criticize other religions, believing theirs is superior. I think that religion is merely an expression of what you believe. If your religion works for you, then it is the "right" religion. I don't think you can really judge who is going to hell or heaven based on religion because I don't think it is fair to condemn someone soley for what their parents taught them to believe- esp. if this is all they will ever learn. A person in this situation would have no way of discovering Jesus Christ, or coming to believe in Buddha, so it would make no sense to condemn them for believing in what they know.

I can't blame you for not believing in any of the "God"s described by any of the religions.
In quoting the Bible as saying "God made men in his own image", the tables are turned when people make a God in THEIR image, and that is just what religions do.
There is a common threat in world religions that describe GOD (by whatever name they call it) as 'all-powerful', 'all-present', and 'all-loving' (or allowing). This description seems to me to fit the underlying intelligent energy found in all the universe.
Here's a question: if GOD is everywhere, how can there be a place where God is NOT?
Hence, how can there be a heaven where God is, and a hell where God is not?
This is the first (but not the last) stumbling block upon which all religions fail.
Social guidelines can be helpful to regulate daily life and channel it into productive and empowering pathways.
To call these guidelines 'God's commandments', however, is, at best, misguided and at worst controlling and manipulative.
The most militant religions I am aware of are Christianity and Islam. Perhaps that's why they both can't stand each other :)
All such 'exclusive' religions claim that THEIR God is the only one, and that the other religion's God is a 'false' one.
They also claim that THEIR God is all-mighty and all-present. Then they go on to fearfully and hatefully defend this all-mighty Being.
A bit insane, don't you think?

God proved who he is,
he used prophecy, recorded in writing, then fulfilled.

If you are honest in your reading, you can see this, esp the book of daniel.

anyone following the word honestly is following God

but many people are picking and choosing.
for example,.
sex outside of marriage is spefically condemned.

if anyone is following a path that allows that,
then you can say honestly, that they are not worshiping the right one.

Many churches today turn a blind eye to that,
It may be taught that it is wrong, but it is overlooked in the congregations.

or two,
concider what JEsus did while on earth.

He talked to ones about God, about the kingdom. He told his disciples to do the same
( as recorded in mathew 28:19,20 and otherwhere)

who do you see doing that work.
that was the whole thing Jesus did while here.
that is what his aposltes and diciples did.

that is what we are supposed to be doing.

who is doing it?

there is a principle,
by the fruit, the tree is known.

WHat people are doing, positivly identifies the correctness of the worship.

as far as who is getting a reward, and who is not,
No man can tell you that,

Mathew 7:1 says not to judge,
a human is not authorized to judge a human.

We can say a certain act is wrong, as identified by the bible,
for example
I can say murder is wrong,
but I am not authorized to judge a man.

and no one on earth is that I am aware of.

I guess the point is,
there are some things that are simply black and white.
for example murder,
that is clearly stated in the bible,
if someone is teaching that it is ok, or of minor passing importance,
you can safely say, they are not following what is written.

if you are looking at an orginazition, a major religion,
it usually takes little time to compare their basic teachings with what is recorded. but, and this is a big but,
You have to want to honestly compare what is happening with what is written, and not just what pastor so and so said, or what mom and dad beleive, or what makes you feel good.

the one which a person follows is the right one. GOD is to big to be in only one place. there are many paths and ways to get to ones destination by walking, riding a bike, a motorcycle, a horse, a donkey, taking a train, a bus, a plane, etc. all will take one where one wants to go. getting there is the important thing -- not how. the only basic differences between one Religion and another are the NAMES they refer to GOD as along with the Rituals and Ceremonies they perform to Adore, Honor, Worship, Praise, Pray to and Petition, Thank, etc.etc. other than these minor differences all Religions are the same and therefore the actual one.

All of them and none of them at the same time.

The way I see it, all religions branch out from a single belief - the belief in a higher being, or many higher beings.

I see religions and god(s)/godess(es) as a tree.

At the roots, there are thousands of spirits, all of them come together in the trunk, or "God", "Allah", "Buddah", "The Goddess", etc. From there, the branches of the tree represent the thousands of ways of belief there are.

I follow no religion, but I am spiritual in the sense that I think there is some higher being, and likely lots of lesser ones to help out, all under some kind of heirarchy. This belief is only one small twig on a huge tree that is likely as old as time itself.

So.. there really is no "right" or "wrong" answer.

... but at least one person in every belief structure or religion that exists is always going to insist that theirs IS the only right answer.

For these people I mourn, for they cannot see the whole picture, and are missing out on broadening their scope.

I'm a Christian. And for starters, all the other religions besides Christianity require good works to get into Heaven. You know right away they have to be false because no man is ever perfect enough to get into Heaven. Everyone makes mistakes. Christianity says that all you gotta do is confess your sins to God and repent. [ No you don't have to make a list of all the bad things you've done, just simply ask for forgiveness for all your sins. ]

To Miller- Look at your own Adam and Eve- they messed up and God punished them. Human beings have the choice to make- to be close to God through good actions, words and deeds, or to fall into an evil way by being self serving, satisfying every need you have, piling up your wealth, ect....
Why would God put you on this earth without purpose or trial? Just to accept Jesus as your Lord is not enough. Not in my eyes. It is way too easy.
I beleive God created the Universe. Whichever one is the actual one- people will debate until the end of this Earth.

If you don't believe in God then how can you believe in Heaven and Hell? To determine where your going starts out by how much did you follow the Golden Rule.

Which religion has the REAL god...hmm, that's a tough one. It's either the one about spaghetti or the one where the guy has sex with his mom. In the spaghetti one, you have to worship the spaghetti guy, and in the other one, you have to masturbate to a block of cheese every July 22.

To avoid going to hell, I suggest you do both of these things. Better safe than sorry, right?

I serve the one true living God and i'm going to heaven because i've given my life to Jesus. Even though i'm not perfect or even close the God i serve forgives and loves me unconditionally. That's why i love him. You should really consider a relationship with him. It's hard but it's also really great.
