We need a new tv. Should we buy a digital one or an ordinary one plus digibox (we want freeview)? I've been told a "digital" tv is just one with the digibox built in and it would therefore be cheaper and we would be no worse off if we got the ordinary telly plus box.

TVs with analogue tuners are being dumped at the moment. For an equivalent set of features (size, HD readiness etc) they are about £200 cheaper than ones with a built in digital tuner. You can get a digibox (same tuner, just in a separate box) for under £30. So if you don't mind having two boxes, buying old technology is better value for money.

if you NEED a new TV the consodering one with a freeview tuner probably makes sense...
whether you need HD TV is arguable. Freeview HD trails are taking plaxce but there is no committmenmt as to when a freeview HD service will be available.

If you are a Sky subscriber, and you want to watch HD TV then an HD tv is a neccessity... mind you if you have a SKY box then getting a digital tuner is irrelevant.. all the channels you can get on Freeview are available on the Sky platform) and also cable (NTL/Virgin Media)

you can get an freeview decoder box for anywhere between £20 & £100... some of the freeview channels are subscription only, the UK TV channels, except UK TV History... if you want to watch those then you need a decoder which allows the use of a card... I've yet to see a digital TV with a card slot that will decrypt UK TV channels.

There is no reason why you cant buy a cheap freeview decoder and connect it to your existing TV...The only issue is that you will have yet another box, yet another remote, yet another power supply connected to the mains. In fact I'd suggest that its a good idea to do this anyway and have a look at freeview and decide if thats 'good enough' for you, or if you want to go down the cable or Sky route. The freeview box can be used for another TV if you do decide to replace your TV with a digital decoder.

Oh yes they will all bamboozle you with all the rubbish they are trying to sell just now. It's a wonder they didn't mention HD? or HD ready?

The least you are going to need is an ordinary TV with a separate digibox. You might have to upgrade your aerial to recieve the digital signals. So get the ordinary telly plus box because the choice of tellies with the decoder built in is very limited.

Don't listen to all the verbal diarrhoea about High definition unless you want to subscribe to Sky and pay through the nose to watch big football games. It's just all a con.

If you watch what i would call, just Ordinary telly, then all you need is a television with a separate digibox. If it's "HD ready", then fair enough. But it's unlikely you will ever want HD. And this will do you for years to come.

Blame in on the Jones, and the advertisers who try with a lot of fulfillment, to persude us to save up with them. I have considered questions about right here from those who had a freeview container, yet then were given a digital television. there is the great element about getting yet another digital format, although this is not properly really worth the fee of a sparkling television. even as an previous shade television stopped operating , I positioned an previous black and white portable as a alternative, it has digital on that, even and not using a scart socket.

most reputable manufacturers now include a DVB tuner (freeview) in their TV's. It is much better to have a TV with an intergrated DVB tuner as the TV will be easier to use rather than messing about with freeview boxes. And by the way, you have no choice about whether or not to have it at the very latest come 2012 there will be nothing else.

well first of all you dont say digital tv cuz all tvs are digital if they werent digital that means they would work off of gas or and engine or somethin lol...but anyway they way to go is HDTV (High Definition TV) because sooner or later most programs will be broadcasted in HD and then all the ordinary LCD TVs will be off the market. it is a little more expensive but its a good buy.

Digital TV is definitely the way to go. I know that most cable companies are converting all of the cable signals to digital by 2008.
