My cat is incredibly lazy and has gained a considerable amount of weight over the past 5 years or so. He used to play with our dog, but she died and ever since then he won't play with anyone and he continuously gains weight. He's up to about 22 lbs! We've put him on diet food for the past 2 years or so and we give him just under the recommended amount, but he still hasn't lost any weight. We've tried to get him to be more active, but with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions???

Have you had the cat's thyroid checked? You may need to take the cat to the vet and get a blood test to see if the cat needs to be on medication.

one time me and my husband did this with our fat cat. It not only made us crack up laughing, but she got some exercise.
One of us stood in the kitchen and the other in the living room. It was a straight shot, and a good 20 feet or so to walk. we each called the cat to us, and when it would get to one, the other person would begin to call her. I love my cat, but she was so stupid to keep running back and forth like this. we must have done it 20-30 times. she probably lost a pound.
no, really though, I don't know what to do, I have fatties too. you think this relates to how american kids these days are so fat? we just don't know what to do and we feel helpless. but the answer is, stop feeding them so darn much!
if your cat is getting old and has been fixed, they tend to gain weight, so its not all you, but reduce the diet again, and play 2-3 times a day with her.

i know this may sound crazy but i have a cat and i know from experience if you can find a Lazar pointer, get it. It will chase it around the house for hours. The running will help him both lose way and stay fit. You will not see a change in a day though you will have to play with him lots but he will lose it.

The kittie is a good idea but more importantly you must feed your cat a light food. Dont get confused and choose a weight managment food, or LITE food, low calorie food. Light spelled l i g h t is regulated by AAFCO and had more fiber in it. Retains more water and makes you cat feel full.

Buy Nutram Weight Control cat food. I used it for two months on my cat and he lost 2lbs. It works.

Get another younger cat and a also a kitty condo for her to climb. If you can let her out it might help. My one kitty is fat ( though not that fat) because I have to keep her inside. You might have your vet test her for any possible disease. Good luck.

Don't feed it as much and play with it more. All cats get lazier as they get older. If you think its a serious heath issue i would contact your vet.
