My mother drinks from the moment she's awake until the moment she's asleep. She has tried AA for a year, that caused her to drink much more. It's gotten crazy since she has gotten a payout, now she's a drunk with money, and the most popular woman at the pub. She is slowly getting sicker and sicker. How do I help her?? Watching her is killing me inside. who else has been in this situation???

Sweetie, I am sorry to say that there is not much you can do for your mum. She has to admit to herself that she has a problem before anyone else can help her. There are some things you can do that will help her come to that point in her life a little sooner though and it will mean you have to be very strong and not give in to her. First and foremost is to never give her alcohol or money. Even if she begs or threatens you. If you give these things to her you are enabling her. Other than that, all you can do is sit back and wait for her to realise she has a problem. In the mean time, let her know that, when she does decide to stop drinking, you will be there for her and support her in her recovery. I wish I could give you a magic cure but this is something SHE has to work out.
Just be there for her when she does get serious

There is nothing any one else can do
its usually when they hit rock bottom that they decide to help themselves but not always
tell her how its hurting you & if you keep letting her know (when she is sober) how its destroying all your lives maybe she will hit the bottom sooner
but what ever don't make your self sick over it
you can ring up Alanon i think its called in Australia & they will be a great help to you They are a support group for people like you
families & loved ones of drunks

My mom is the same way. If you gave her a choice alcohol or her children she would prefer alcohol. I have decided that I can't have a relationship with her because she is out of control. You can't help her she has to want ti help herself. I have tried to put my Mom in rehab she went for two weeks came out and the same day got drunk. Its really hard watching a parent do that to themselves but there is nothing you can do. Good Luck

Has your family had an intervention? Perhaps she needs to actual invest in a rehabilitation center. I think some insurances actually cover that. Either way you need to go to extremem measures. Even small things like taking money from her wallet while she's asleep so she can't drink with it. Or hiding her keys.

There is nothing you can do for her until she decides to help herself. There is something you can do for yourself though. You can go to alanon/alateen. If you can't find a phone number in the phone book, call AA (I'm sure they will be in your phone book) and ask when and where the meetings are. Alanon is a group for people like you that have an alcoholic in the family. They can help you learn to deal with it.

It's time for an intervention. Send her to one of those clinics where she will live there for like 3 months. I think that is the only option for her right now. This way they control every single thing she drinks. I really hope she gets better fast, for both your sakes.
