I do not have experience with either camera, but I see nobody has answered yet, so I'll tell you what I think based on http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=fuji_finepixe550z%2Cfuji_finepixa600&show=all

It looks like the E550 is over two years old and that in itself would be enough to keep me from buying it. They are calling it a 6 MP camera, but that is "interpolated" and it is really only a 3 MP camera. It has more control for the user and it does have an optical viewfinder - a real advantage over the A600.

I can't find a price on the A600, but if the F30 is in your budget, I think I'd prefer this choice from Fuji - if you are sticking with Fuji. It still does not have an optical viewfinder, but at least it does offer user control. One of our regular members here highly endorses the F30 and says that its low-light perfomrnace is exceptional. You can read this review and see what you think:

The E550 use the 4th generation Super CCD which many people said its worse than a regular CCD. I would take the A600 since it has the 6th generation Super CCD and I got to say Fuji finally gets it right.

Dr. Sam mention the F30 and I am one of the person who endorse it even tho it doesn't have optical viewfinder. Please, don't take my words for it. See if for yourself

You will not find this kind of night time / low light performance from any point and shoot compact digital anywhere else.
