Lupus is a auto-immune disorder where my immune system attacks my healthy cells, so I am on drugs that surpress my immune system.

You should disclose this to the artist as well as informing them of any medications you may be taking. It is for your protection as well as theirs, particularly with regard to any liabilities. Also professional tattooists may have additional information regarding lupus...different methods for aftercare etc. You will definitely want to consult your doctor, just to be on the safe side...tattoos are awesome, but they are not worth sacrificing your health. According to the link below, "there are no specific problems associated with tattoos in lupus patients", although there is the occasional risk of a reaction to specific dyes...another reason to inform your artist. Good Luck!

You have to tell what medication you are on I believe. I would call around and ask about being on prednisone. I'm not sure if that would cause problems during the tattooing or healing.

I wouldn't get the tattoo if I were you... Your body's immune system is so sensitive it is attacking itself...imagine what it might try to do to the tattoo ink! Please at least ask your doctor first. I do not have lupus, but my tattoos periodically flare up and itch, so I do not recommend them to anyone.

if your immune system is shot i would seriously consider not getting one. the body has to fight any disease that comes into the body after a tattoo is freshly done i feel that you would not have a strong enough immune system for it to heal.

you should talk to your doctor about the risks and make sure it is okay to do. you shouldn't withhold the information from your tattooer. they do have you fill out a form asking for any medical conditions. you should definitely tell. and you could get very sick if something goes wrong, or since your immune system is supressed.

I don't think lupus is contagious. It is hereditary. I would tell the artist so s/he knows, if they're not comfortable doing the piece find someone who will.

I don't understand. Is lupus contagious? Why would you have to tell the tattoo artist anything about it if it is not? I would consult your physician, but to my understanding lupus is not contagious, and therefore is none of the artist's business...
