With all of the approved letters of recommendation and etc. he will need to start with a personnel action request or DA Form 4187. The army regulation that covers all army schools has information about required documents and procedures.

You are getting way ahead of yourself. You just enlisted. You don't have to make any of these decisions today. Get through your AIT and get to your first unit and do the best job you can do. Already you are on the right path to being a professional NCO, Warrant Officer or Officer. The path has divided yet. As soon as you are settled in, go to your education center on your base and sign up for some college classes at night. You are still on the same path to being a professional NCO, WO or Officer. While you are working on enough credits to attend OCS or WOCS, you will pin on your SGT stripes and your college will have helped you get there. Your work as an NCO will also earn you your commander's recommendation to WOCS or OCS whichever you might decide. But all this is years in the future and you don't have to decide now. You can become an NCO and even do a tour as a DS then go to WOCS then go to OCS if you want. Just slow down and take it one step at a time. I was an E-6 when my team leader suggested I go to OCS. I had never considered it.

This would be a special duty assignment. Depending on his MOS, whether there is a restriction on leaving his field will determine if he can first of all. Have him check with his 1st Sgt. He should have all the details.

Of course his unit Sgt wouln't know. Have him talk with the 1st Sgt. He's going to need their recommendation anyway.

Have him talk to retention. Then fill out the drill packet.

Tell him to talk to the company training officer, or NCO, and he can tell him the info, or find out for him.
