Best Way to Get Around:
Forget driving. Walking, the subway (my favorite), and even the bus, or take a cab make the most sense. But above all, wear comfortable shoes! Recent rule changes for pedestrians as well as vehicles are being strictly enforced, so cross at the green and not in between!

Yes, if the weather is nice, take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. The view is beautiful, you'll see the city all stretched out and the river and the Sound will be incredibly blue; the bridge itself is beautiful and an amazing feat of engineering, and has a fascinating historical marker at the middle; you'll get to share the walkway with all the New Yorkers strolling and bicycling; and if you don't feel like walking back across, just hop on the subway on the Brooklyn side, and ride one stop back to Lower Manhattan.
