females will have the scent through the entire pregnancy, during the birth and after til the pups are about 3 weeks. so the male will try to mount her all the time til she has the pups. i breed golden retrievers and my male always tried to mount my female all the way up to when the pups were about 2-3 weeks old. he is fine with her till she has the puppies then you will need to keep him away from her till she has the pups. she will bleed after the pups are born so no need to worry about that it is normal. so everything that you are seeing with the male and the female is perfectly normal, but you will have to keep him from her just before she is due. good luck.

Its because she has the scent on her and halfway through her pregnancy she has discharge my male dog tries to sniff at my bi**h when she is cleaning the discharge away she growls and snaps at him thinking he is trying to mount her she is due in just under 2 weeks time and she really cant be bothered with him as he is very giddy around her and all she wants to do is lie down and sleep when we are in the house I think the reason he behaves this way is he is just making sure she as concieved by him and he will keep trying after the birth its best to keep them apart for a few weeks as she will come back into season again a cpl of weeks after birth good luck you dont say how far along she as gone????
