i bruise extremely easily. For example, in a paintball game I was shot in the upper arm twice. The next day my whole upper arm was almost black and the bruise didn't go completely away for about two months.

I figure that by getting a tattoo, I will bruise up badly like that again. Would that cause any type of medical problem that anybody here knows about?

Thanks!

One thing is that I don't bleed a lot and heal up rather quickly for the most part. I am not fair-skinned, but I am a caucasian.

One other thing I should have mentioned is the large discolored area didn't hurt. It just looked like it should. I also get the same kind of discoloration by carrying a heavy duffle bag with a shoulder strap. (Took me forever to figure out what was causing those marks.) :-)

I'd guess you're anemic (have an iron defficiency). Try taking a Multi-vitamin with iron. Relatively low doses of iron can't hurt you - if you end up with extra you'll just poop it out (watch out though, because it can turn your poo black).

One way to check is to prick your finger and squeeze the drop of blood into a glass of water. If it sinks, you're fine. If it floats or hovers kind of weakly, you're anemic (they do this when you give blood - and I get turned away most of the time because mine floats). More extreme anemia usually has a whole host of fun symptoms, including fatigue, dizziness, and (a strange one) a craving to chew on ice!

I bruise really easily (I'm usually mildly anemic and am very fair skinned), and have never bruised from a tattoo. The area around the tattoo is usually a bit red and raised for a day or so, but it heals pretty quickly.

You may want to go to a doctor and have that checked out before you get a tattoo, just in case you have some sort of clotting disorder. If your blood doesn't clot properly, getting a tattoo may cause you to bleed too much. Even if you're not worried about the blood loss, that's a great way to ruin a perfectly good tattoo, and SO isn't worth the chance.

If you bruise easily than go to your local health food store and pick up some Arnica. They carry it in cream and pill form. I suggest taking it via pill. Take 2 a day starting about 2 days before the tattoo...continue taking it for a total of a week. This will help minimize the discoloration of your skin. I used to play roller derby for a local team and I swear by this. I was knocked down all the time but had minimal bruises!

I bruise easily as well, and I've never had a serious problem with any of my 15 tattoos.

Sometimes I can see slight bruising around the edges of my tattoos, but it goes away quickly and has never caused any sort of problem.

I bruise really easy and didn't bruise at all with either of my 2 tattoos. It's not the same since it's a needle, I think.

I'd mention it to the artist, they might have good tips on aftercare.

depending on your skin type yes they can bruise. Bruising is broken blood vessels under the surface of your skin. if it doesnt fade after a week or two, you could have gotten a botch tattoo, in which case if you go to another location they can touch it up and rework it to look good as new.

Many, many things. Depends if you are on meds it could happen even over the counter stuff that you take regularly like asprin can cause thin blood. Thin blood is one factor that makes people bruise easily. But like me i take type of insulin pill which makes me bruise easily. Nothing that is seriously wrong just thin blood. Then there are other factors such as maybe your body is just sensitive and you dont heal well.

You bleed easily, or you have a very fair complexion? Talk to your doctor see what he thinks. If it is a blood clotting problem then you will need to be careful getting a tattoo.
