Often people like to be philosophical with pointless questions. and if the question is pointless, then the answer may be pointless too, and so it can be anything the person wants to say, because it doesn't really have to answer anything. Maybe some people just want an opportunity to say something in particular, and when you ask a pointless question it gives them the chance to do so.

Pointless questions require the least amount of thought, therefore encourage participation by a broader spectrum of visitors.

sometimes people just want to be able to answer a question without giving too much thought although i tend to like alot of the questions on here that make you think
