Hey, My recordable DVDs no longer work, and I've not idea why... so I was just wondering if anyone could help me?

When I put the TDKs into my Panasonic recordable DVD player, it says that the disk is empty... if I try to record on it, it says that the disk is full and can't be recorded on.

I've recorded on these previously, but then deleted the programme... so I know they have worked at one point.

I'm using DVD+R and DVD-R ... I've no idea what these mean, just thought I'd let it be known.

Hoping someone can help me before I chuck them all in the bin!

Thanks very much!

KC

The DVD+R and DVD-R are ONE-TIME recordable DVD's. Unfortunately, you've now deleted the program (I guess this is for someone who doesn't want others to find the disk and play it), so there is no way to put another program on it.

What you'd really want is a DVD-RW or, since you have a Panasonic, you can probably use a DVD-RAM. Both of those allow you to re-record over and over. My Panasonic can't record on DVD+RW, so yours probably can't either -- so mind your +'s and -'s when shopping.

Unfortunately, you'll have to trash the DVDs you've already erased.

DVD -R and -RW are the original DVD formats and carry the DVD logo. DVD +R and +RW are competing formats which were developed by Philips and others (The +R/+RW alliance) to avoid paying royalties to Pioneer and others who developed the original DVD media. These disks do not carry the DVD logo.

Most DVD recorders / players will play more than one format but there are still loads out there that wont.

The -R and +R formats are one time write only disks which can be continually written to until full provided you do not close / finish / finalise the disk. (Different machines / software use different terminology). DVD -RW and +RW disks can be written to over and over again. However if these disks are closed / finalised they must be reformatted to allow further use.

As all DVD media needs finalising before it can be read by a player / recorder other than the one it has been produced by, this would explain why your panasonic might not be reading it.

list-once (non rewriteable) DVDs alongside with DVD+R or DVD-R will play in all overdue-variety standard DVD gamers. Many gamers will also play lower back DVD+RW or DVD-RW (reusable discs) yet there's a lot extra possibility of complications, so in case you want the purely right effects do no longer use -RW or +RW type media. there is continually a risk of a particular disc no longer playing nicely, because of damaged or defective media; that isn't influence the playback of the disc on the recorder, yet "weaker" DVD gamers ought to have a difficulty. fortunately that doesn't take position very usually.

It sounds like the discs you are using are the ones you can record on just once DVD-R and not the ones that you can re-record on DVD-RW. Hope this helps.

If you are using DVD+R and DVD-R discs you can only use them once! If you want to delete and reuse discs you have to use DVD+RW or DVD-RW. RW means ReWritable!!

Try washing of the disk with soap & water, dry it real well then try again. I had to do that with mine & it worked.

if you are using r discs they are once only discs. if you want to re use a disc you need to use rw.
