i got my tongue pierced like 3 days ago and my tongue didn't swell at all. the problem is the ball at the bottom. it is irritating the area in which it is laying. will this eventually stop or do i need to remove it?

it'll be sore for awhile, your mouth isn't used to having something hard constantly rubbing against it, but it will eventually stop. you may want to get a shorter bar after a couple weeks, that will help. just keep frequently swishing with listerine and you'll be fine.

Aside from the fact that I think most piercings are disgusting.

A serious fact is that any bacterial infection that you get in your mouth can run your blood stream straight to your heart. This is an absolute fact. Hydrogen Peroxide as a mouth wash will heal mouth irritations.

If I were you I would take it out, the irritation can cause some very serious problems.

They tend to put in a longer bar when you get your tongue pierced to accommodate the swelling. If your tongue hasn't swelled up at all (lucky you!) it is likely the bar is a bit too long. You will get used to the bar in your mouth, but learning not to fiddle with it takes a while to get used to.

You will be able to swap for a shorter bar in about four weeks.

for the first two weeks of me getting my tongue pierced I wanted to pull the darn thing out. that annoying feeling will go away and you will be learn how to position your tongue so it does not bother the inside of your mouth. it will be second nature.

It possibly will continue to annoy and irritate you for some time to come until the area gets a protective layer of thick mucosa over it...;
