This is a hard one to call...they don't believe you when you tell them they need help, but yet you don't want them to go and get hurt with their actions. I once knew a man and wife that were married, and he was so sick mentally and the more she tried to help him, the worse he was...he berated her and called HER the mentally ill person and called her a phsyco etc..and all she was trying to do was to get help for him...it was really sad, because she truly did love him and he ran her off....he just went downhill afterwards,...but she left because he still refused to get help...anyway...so what do you do? You get some advice from a proffessional, and see what they suggest in this particular circumstance.

Unless your her therapist DO NOT interfere with her. You need to have training to recognize how she will react and if she could become a danger to herself. A psychiatrist would probably classify this as mildly psychotic and you do not want to make her more psychotic. Call a local psychiatrist office about it because they will know how to handle the situation locally and many also work for the State. They will know enough to at least refer you to someone.

P.S. It's good your her friend but any intervention needs to be supervised by a mental health care professional.

The condition you describe is "schizophrenia". Tell her that you know of a place where she can be safe from those appliances.

Hopefully, she can trust someone enough after a while to accept their word on this, because those voices are VERY VERY real.

Tell her that her stove told you she was schizophrenic. Seriously, I had a friend that was talking to stuffed animals on her dresser, and insisted that they talked back to her. After going with her to a regular medical check up, I took the opportunity to mention to her problem to the nurse. She had the doctor bring it up and she began receiving medication immediately. Almost instantly she began to be calmer and more rational, and in my opinion, made her a fully functioning person again.

You need to call your local hospital and see if they cant make arrangements to evaluate her. If she refuses they can bring her in for a 72 hour involuntary hold. Its the best thing for her. I feel that she may have schizophrenia.
