if you got some layers and blond highlights done professionally it should look really nice. Just make sure you dont bleach your hair yourself the first time because you may damage them.

I have long brown hair and two days ago I decided after cutting it and dying (EVEN BRIGHT BLOND ONCE ) to get it permed .
Not the best idea. I got my college to do it as they have trainees there .they ruined my hair . Its ok now but 4 inches shorter andc a free course of treatments in the new year to combat the fact that my hair is now really DRY .
Think twice before doing anything drastic and get it done by a professional salon and tell them what you want no what they want Good Hair days

An expensive salon isn't necessarily the answer. Also, you state some details about your hair, height, weight and face shape but not, quite importantly about your skin and eye colour.

Without that info, to be safe I'd say go redder.....maybe auburn or copperish or a mix of the two. If it's your first big change, I wouldn't say go drastic or go blonde!

If you have pale colouring and blue eyes....reddish/auburn/copper would be great.

Best advice without the necessary info is find a salon who give free consultations. Just ring them and ask if they have colourists and free consultations. Go around all who offer them and take their advice into account before you choose which one to actually pay for the pleasure!

Also bear in mind, I'm a brunette with fair colouring and a heart shaped face. I have really healthy, long, dark brown hair and I've been using the same expensive salon for the last 5 years. I decided last year just before Xmas to let them colour my hair (which I had been happily doing for 5 years at home out of a box....always of the red/copper colour and always had compliments on it). The salon gave me a free consultation with their colourist...we decided one on base colour and a lo/high lighting colour.....again along the copper/red tones.

I was disappointed. When I went back for the actual apptmt she couldn't remember what we'd agreed so we had to start again. I told her my hair takes on colour really easily and quickly. To cut a long story short.....I was in there for 4 hrs!! Because when she unveiled the whole wet look the first time, my lo/highlights were blood red!!! She said it looked festive!! I said "festive off"!!!!

She tried to tone it down 3 times.....until 4hrs later we eventually got a look/colour I could walk out of the shop with, without feeling too embarrassed. And to top it off, I was pressured in the shop towards the end about taking up too much of their time and her being late for her next appointment!!!! I just wanted out of there I was so cross!

Since then, my hair hasn't been the same. I can't get the colour I want even from my usual box colours and wherever she did lo/highlights, you can see an obviously different colour in my hair!

With hindsight, I shouldn't have been pressurised and certainly shouldn't have paid the £150 fee for something I was pretty unhappy with 4hrs later, regardless of how many customers she had lining up....especially as I was a long standing customer myself!!

So, expensive salons can still get it wrong.....just look around for free consultations and go with the one you feel gave you the most alternatives, best advice, who you felt most comfortable with, one who's got a "here's what happens if it goes wrong" policy, maybe even a don't pay if we screw it up policy, or a keep coming back till we can correct it policy.....and you might find all that in one of your local less expensive hairdressers rather than an expensive salon who think they can charge excessive prices and stitch you up with no remorse or comeback!!!

My disaster happened on 17/12/05.....I've not been back to a hairdresser since!!! It's long anyway and in good condition so I just trim my fringe and colour at home myself. I am still looking for a good trustworthy local hairdressing salon again though!

Good luck with it......

Just make sure you go to an expensive hair salon that is the most important thing. Then they will take care of oyu and listen to you properly and give you something that really looks good.

Get layers cut ito your hair and try some high and low lights as they will look much nicer than blond as that can look seriously tacky if not done properly.

K first give you hair some long layers and side bangs, then highlight your hair a shade or 2 lighter, and add blonde streaks

i think you should have it cut a bit shorter and have lairs put in it as for the blond bits some times they can look a bit tacky so i would go for light brow highlights. hope this helps =D
