I've had strep for a week and after getting stronger anti-boitics, I'm starting to feel better. However, the medicine has given me dry mouth, a double ear infection and many other things.

Also my mucus has mixed in with my blood so it is like a pinkish color. Is this a good sign or bad?

Don't worry. You broke a tiny blood vessel from either blowing your nose or coughing too much, too hard.

Dry mouth can be resolved with a spray called Salivart. There are other similar products but I prefer this particular one and use it at work. You can buy it at your pharmacy and they can order it in if need be. The oral cavity has a rich blood supply and many fragile capillaries. When the mucous membrane dries out, the capillaries can break causing a small amount (trace blood) of blood in the saliva. Keep the membranes moist with Salivart and you will solve that problem.

The blood in your mucus could be fron your irritated throat and nose, or possibly a broken blood vessel. If you're worried about it, get it looked at. This is usually not a big deal unless it is a lot of blood. If your mucus turns into more blood than mucus, definitely get it checked out.

Dry mouth is a normal side effect of a strong antibiotic, but bleeding in the mouth isn't good. It's good that you're feeling better from the strep, but if your side effects don't get better within 72 hours you should go back to your doc and make sure everything is okay.

Hydrate more -----in other words drink more water and tell your MD. You are probably just really dry which can irritate the mucous membranes cauling minor bleeding but you should ask the doc. If it is caused by meds he can work with you to change what you are doing.
