I am starting a childcare business for over 8 years, but all the websites say that I can't CRB myself?

I realise why CRB checking is in place, I have 3 children myself. My question relates to the fact that I will own the company name, and registering your own name, against your own company seems impossible to do. When caring for over 8 years, Osfed rules are different. I will however try the disclosure web site and contact my local authority. I am working with a lady in our local authority, but she has advised that they have stopped completing CRB checks for childcarers and only complete them for in-house staff.
Thank you to those of you that have already given good advice, it is much appreciated and I will make a few calls tomorrow. Thanks again

If you are in the UK, any childcare business will have to be registered and regulated by your local County Council Social Services Department. Give them a ring and they will tell you everything you need to know. They will also arrange your CRB for you.
Good Luck with your venture

How can you carry out the necessary police checks etc yourself? Its not for you to decide and regardless of how many years experience you have in that field, someone needs to check you out.

If it weren't for these checks every tom dick and harry would be pretending to be someone theyre not. And all kinds of paedos and the like would be getting through the system. It's for your and everybody elses safety wouldn't you agree?

Try your local LEA (local education authority) - they did mine for me (school-related).

Or ask your Ofsted people how to get it done.
