Go to BIOS, and choose CDROM as your first boot device. Make sure you have inserted the cd, save and restart computer.

There are a couple of issues here.

1. That hard drive does not have an operating sy6stem loaded on the hard drive. The machine is checking the hard drive for an Operating system and finds one then checks your floppy drive for a boot up disk. If it does not find an operating system then you will recieve the load system disk prompt on the all black screen. This is when you would load the system disk with the operating system you would want to creat

2. Win98 are you aware that Microsoft has dropped support for Win98 years ago?

3 One of the things you may want to try is try loading either win200 or winXP on your HD operating systems (OS) in that process for a new HD you will be prompted to format your hard drive. Create a few partitions on your hard drive One partiton for a Dos based environment Win98 is a Dos based OS. One partition for either WIN2000 Pro or WINXP these two operating systems are NTFS based operating systems. Then creat a partition for your Linux operating system.

I hope this has helped you. If you want you can email me wfj209a@yahoo.com

your computer may be too advanced for win98...or the hard drive may not be properly attached and the motherboard is not reading it....try putting in a boot disc for any operating system and see if that gets you to the format screen

on your bios menu the cd-rom could be interior the 1st place, the complicated force interior the 2d place. if so in case you haven't any disk interior the cd-rom that is going to easily pass it and pass to the complicated force. If the laptop is attempting besides from the complicated force and provides the errors "Insert equipment Disk" regardless if the complicated force is in one million or 2 place, then your complicated dirve has extreme issues and is failing. in case you have any significant data on it you could at modern-day replica them to a distinctive gadget. in the experience that your cd-rom does not start up with a bootable cd interior the cd-rom (and the cd-rom is interior the 1st place interior the bios menu) then your cd-rom may well be failing. in all likelihood the simplest thank you to attempt the cd-rom is to interchange it with yet another. in case you prefer to run a diagnostic attempt on the complicated force this link has a loose application. good success
