Poor little tyke didn't get the best start in life and was lucky that someone had the time and patience to help him survive.

Normally a kitten weighs four pounds at four months. He had to be at least two pounds to have been neutered so maybe he is weighing in now around three or three and a half pounds. He may always be a rather small cat - due to genes or getting a slow start and that should not be a matter of concern if he continues to gain and do well.

Please at least get him a decent food. Natural Balance has both canned and dry foods. It is a high quality and not high priced cat food (though it will be more than Friskies for sure). The NB foods have two high quality meat sources as the first two ingredients in their food and a more wholesome grain source than corn for the third ingredient. That's about 90% of his food. That's what he needs to grow and be healthy - not a diet of 2/3 corn as in Friskies and the other "grocery store" foods.

Since he is a male 50% of his diet should be canned food. Go to: www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Why Cats Need Canned Food". It is at the end of about sixty articles on cat health, diet and behavior.

He will eat the canned meat believe me. Give half a can in the AM and then the rest at nightime. When you open a can of food in the AM put the remainder in a pyrex dish to save for his evening meal. You don't have to refrigerate it if he eats the rest that day. He can have the dry food to eat during the day until he settles for the two meal a day routine at six months or so.

Don't fall for the "kitten food" line. If he has high quality meat as his main sustenance that is all he needs. Every commercial cat food has the taurine and vitamins he needs to grow and thrive. Mother cats do not bring their kittens special "kitten" mice when they wean them.

See if he likes any Deli Meats (sliced thin for sandwiches). Turkey & Ham seem popular

[Not talking about Deli Meat now] See if he will share some meat with you.. cut up pieces about 1 inch by 1 inch or half an inch by half an inch of human food like Chicken, Turkey, Steak (Angus XD & Filet Minon are loved), Pork, not things considered Fish though since cats are allergic to so many... Just make sure you get them from the store and cook them... not from some place like KFC,.. Although some Cats perfer the Rest Food it some times makes them very sick for a couple days.

First of all, make sure your kitty has been dewormed. Thats number 1. Secondly, you want to feed your kitten as much as he will eat for the first couple of months, and make sure it's specifically kitten food as adult cat food will not have the same nutrients that a young, playful kitten will need. Lastly, if in the next couple of weeks you don't see a change, speak with your vet and they should be able to offer you more advice.

Good luck with everything!

Did you worm him? My cat doesn't like wet food either but she does like the 9 Lives Flaked Tuna, try that. If you have to, mix it with dry food.

Ask you local PetsMart dealer what type of can food to buy them. that will make them bigger. First make sure if you know what can to buy.
