I'm 14 years old and overweight. I'm trying not to tell anyone about me losing weight because I want to try and do this on my own (I like being independent). 2 weeks ago I tried losing weight by eating less junk food and about 800 calories a day. I lost about 6 pounds. However, the following week, we had company and parties and I couldn't resist myself from shoving food into my mouth...and i gained 5 pounds. Now I'm trying to lose weight again AND not gain weight again. This week I've been eating:
breakfeast-3/4 bowl of cereal & organic milk
lunch-ham & turkey sandwich and a small snack
afternoon snack-3 crackers, 4 thick pretzels, a candy cane
dinner-usually 1 and a half cup of rice and some meat/vegetables
(2 weeks ago I ate less than this and last week I ate like twice as much as this)
Does anyone have any other tips on what I should do to lose weight?

Make sure youre eating more than 1000 cal per day or your just hurting yourself. Your body starts hoarding calories because it thinks youre starving and you'll gain weight. If you can count your cal, then do that, it's a really good way to lose weight. Go to www.thedailyplate.com if you want help counting your calories (it does it for you and keeps track of it). That website will also tell you how many cal you should be eating to lose weight based on how much you weight now.

The foods in your diet right now are good, but you need more. Try replacing your crackers and pretzels with an apple and a banana. You should be eating something every 2-3 hours to burn calories the most effiiciently. Have your apple or banana (or other fruit) between breafast and lunch, switch your lunch snack to raw carrots (no Ranch dressing), and have another fruit in between lunch and dinner. If you go to sleep more than 4 hours after dinner, have another snack at least 1.5 hours before bed. You dont have to eat more than you are right now (as long as it's over 1000 cal per day), just spread it out. You can actually eat more and lose weight if you do it right.

Try to get in a little workout, even if that means just briskly walking to school or the bus stop. Try to walk/exercise about 20 consecutive min per day.

Good luck on your weight loss. Dont try to be too skinny, esp at your age because your body wont develop properly.

It sounds like you actually have a pretty decent plan going there. Eat a well-balanced diet of smaller meals and you'll be fine.

The key to remember is you are not on a diet. Diets ALWAYS fail because they are deprivations, and once people reach their target weight they stop the diet and return to their old habits.

You are after the "lifestyle change" the Dr. Phil talks about. Eat more frequent smaller meals, get some exercise (nothing too strenuous, but just find something you like doing and keep doing it). Don't starve yourself, because then you'll be hungry and want to eat. Just be aware of what you're taking in, but don't obsess about it.

Don't expect immediate results either. Many people get frustrated when they stop eating junk food and dont lose 50 pounds in a month. Depending on the amount of weight you are dropping, it could actually be worse for you to lose it too fast. Just eat healthy and get a little more actve. Be patient, relax, and enjoy yourself. You're only 14 so you have plenty of time to drop the weight before your wedding, but definitely start the process now.

Good luck

wow you've come so far already! well done :) a full stone is a lot to lose! i am a thirteen year old girl and i am 5ft 5 ... i have tried dieting but i love food so much... originally i started off at 10st 3lbs and i am currently 8st 1lbs... i lost 2st 2lbs... here's my tips : 1... in the morning before school i do 100 skips with the skipping rope, 3 straight minutes of running around the house ( you can run really wherever you like !) and 5 straight minutes of walking... 2... for breakfast i eat wholemeal cereal or a smoothie or a slice of wholemeal bread to keep me energized for the day... a healthy breakfast is an absolute must!! 3... for dinner veg a potato and some meat which you could replace with some other sources of protein ... 4... in the evening for tea just something simple like a piece of fruit or a fat-free yogurt... 5... never ever skip meals, this may work in the short term but it is so bad for you and in the long term you shall gain weight instead of losing it ,it slows your metabolism down and so you gain weight... 6... always vary what you eat for your meals, never eat the same things everyday, this is very bad for you... 7... my evening exercises can vary a lot from a long walk to a sprint around the park... the plank, sit- ups, skipping... really anything that i feel like doing...it is so important that you vary your exercises also 'cause if you don't, your body shall get used to the exercises you are doing and shall have no effect on you whatsoever after a while... this is scientifically proven... this is why your weight loss has come to a halt, you need to do different things and not the same things everyday... i know you said you find it hard to incorporate exercises 'cause of revision and school but do some before school like i do... i know from doing revision that you have to take a break sometimes, so go do some exercises... go for a walk, jog or whatever you like doing... fresh air is good for your mind... it helps to clear your brain and helps you to relax... also , try not to eat a couple of hours before you go to bed... the latest you should eat at is six o' clock... if you do this the food shall just sit in your stomach and it shall turn into fat 'cause it is not burned off, this happens 'cause you do not burn any calories while you sleep... i think the major issue for you is to change things around, don't do the same things everyday ... i really hope i helped, this worked for me and it was the proper decision that i ever made and i am never going back ... i hope this works for you! good luck :)

I applaud your stepping out and trying to do this independently.

Best advice water lots of water. It's the mover of the system.

lower on anything pork. Ham, bacon, ... you get the idea.

if calories are your concern, the just follow a simple guide line, diet is based on 2000 calories a day and the body will store fats if the metabolism is not fueled to a certain point 1200, I think.

water and activity are both essential to weight loss.

Keep up the good work, it is difficult during this time of year.

Good luck!

P.S. Please...DO NOT listen to these bozos talking about anorexia and bulimia. They will ruin your life. Be healthy and well! :)

sweetie, please don't be hard on yourself, you are only 14! if you really feel that you need to lose weight then eat a balanced diet and if you really crave something then allow yourself to have it. you need to eat at least 1300 calories a day or your body will shut down and conserve energy making it impossible to lose weight. eat 5 or 6 small meals a day to keep your metabolism going strong and drink plenty of water. if you want chocolate then have it!!!!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!
