Hi, I have a 6 month old, and am finding it very hard to get back into shape. I've lost some of the baby weight, but I need more help! My major problem is time. I work fulltime and am pooped by the time my son goes to bed, so I just go to sleep.
I'd rather not take any pills.
I'd love any advice!

If you make a few life style changes you should be able to lose the weight within a reasonable time frame. This is a system that has worked well for me and several friends have also been successful with it.

1. Eat three nutritious meals and three snacks everyday. Cut out junk food and fast food. If you eat lunch at work, pack your own. You probably need about 1500 to 1800 calories a day. Many people make the mistake of not eating enough when they try to lose weight and then become discouraged.

2. Drink lots of water - at least 8 big glasses as day. Lots of water is essential. Stop drinking soda and other drinks with useless calories. Eat fresh fruit instead of fruit juices - the juices are very high in calories.

3. Begin a simple weight lifting program at home or at a gym. Taking a hour for yourself three times a week to go to the gym might actually give you more energy. Possibly you could do it on the way home from work, which is what I used to do. Ordinary household items (tins of soup, for example) can actually serve as weights for beginners. Buy yourself a good weight lifting book for women. Actually the "dummies" series of books has done a rather good one.

4. Walk, walk, walk. Buy yourself a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps a day. Walk extra steps st work. Consciously build extra steps into your day. Go th elong way around to get to another office. It all adds up.

5. Record everything you eat and all your exercise to make sure you have a "calorie deficit". Two of the sites I've included will help you do that. Basically burning more calories than you take in leads to weight loss. You need a deficit of 3500 calories to lose one pound.

6. If you drive, do less of it and park at the back of the parking lot instead of close to the door. Always use stairs - never the elevator or escalator.

7. A mini stepper is an easy piece to equipment to have at home and gives great results. I bought mine at a second hand store for $4. Even if you use it for a minute or two several times a day it can make a big difference. If you have an office at work, you may even be able to have one in your office.

I know how hard it is with a six month old. But you will be able to take better care of your baby if you take better care of yourself.

I hope these thoughts help. You can do this. Good luck with it.

Congratulations on the new baby! My wife and I have a 2 year old daughter at home, and we have found it is not easy. We both put on weight because of the demands on our time, the odd sleeping hours, and the lack of motivation to cook good food because we are tired all the time.

Some of the things we are doing are:
Take the baby on walks around the block every day in the stroller.
Go to the mall and walk with baby in stroller.
One parent babysits while the other goes for a jog.
Yoga or Power 90 during naptime.
Grandma babysits while we hit the gym.

If you just don't have the time to do any of these things, it's not the end of the world. Just wait until your baby starts walking, and you will get plenty of exercise chasing them.

Best of luck <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Many patients ask me how they can slim down. I am against prescription pills because I prescribed them many years ago, and some of my patients became very ill.

I now recommend that people eat right and exercise. However, if they would like a little "help", I now recommend Hoodia (it's important to note that not all Hoodia works well, even if the bottle says "pure" or "standard".

The Hoodia being sold at http://www.alllsite.info/free-diet-pills.php is in my opinion, the best product on the market. It's pure, no side effects, and it's only $4.97 for 2 weeks (yes, less than $5 !). My patients have seen dramatic results with this particular Hoodia.

Really Thick Home Made Vegetable Soup & Toast. Vegetable Fried Rice. Make up a heap and keep it resonably plain. For the first meal add some smoked flaked fish to that portion For another meal add some shredded chicken or cold meat. Fry or poach an egg so the yolk acts as a flavouring instead of soy sauce. Curried sausages& onions with mashed potatoes. Fruit and Jello Pikelets with Jam and cream

Start walking, even if its for a 1/2 hour a couple of times a week. Leave the baby with your partner or your parent and use this precious time to yourself, believe me, it works wonders.

I recommend you when you feel hungry, instead to eat, you should drink water, because sometimes we think that we have hunger but isn't. If you calm that sensation means that you were thirsty not hunger, but if the feeling doesn't go, you have to eat fruits if you are in your work or in the street. I have donde that and it's worked a lot to keep my shape.
Now, in your three times of food, eat a little but always eat, don't hold hunger. Good luck! ;)

Try this free weight loss website: http://www.sparkpeople.com

I lost 30 lbs in 3 months by using it to track my calories consumed and burned in the online calorie counter. It's fabulous!

Do you breast feed your baby? Breast feeding alone burns 500 calories a day. Other than that, all you can really do is cut back on intake calories and increase calorie burn. Try parking far away, using stairs instead of elevator, etc.

Go to the gym during your lunch break. If that's too expensive (b/c it could be), walk during your lunch break and any chance you get ~ stairs instead of elevator/escalator etc.

Hope that helps a little.
