~Cut them in half and slowly get yourself off of them. Being a nice guy on medication is not a good enough reason to keep taking them.
If they help that much with your mood, you should see a doctor about getting medication for depression or anxiety.
Definitely don't stop taking them cold turkey. You will be uncomfortable as you wean yourself off.~

First- you have to know that too much can be dangerous. But not for the reason you think. Lortabs contain hydrocodone (the opiate) and Tylenol. Oddly, its the overdose of Tylenol that doctors worry about. More than 4 grams in a day (8 lortabs in a day!) of Tylenol can cause severe and sudden liver failure in some people. If the antidote is not given in time, these people die or need a liver transplant.
In everyone, there is a dose that will cause liver failure, it may just be a little more than 4 grams depending on your metabolism. So don't get a false sense of confidence if you already take more than 8 tabs in a day and feel healthy.

The question is do you still have pain? Also, do you feel a high? Are you taking them to control the pain and get on with your life or has taking them become a center of your life?

You really should talk to your doctor. You doctor will not report you as an abuser, but will talk to you about the pain and addiction. The fact that you are concerned is good. If you are addicted he can get you resources. If you need better pain control he can do that too.

Also please ignore anything about pain medicines you may have seen on TV (HOUSE is full of misinformation.)

Hello, You should be well aware then how easy it is to get hooked on these drugs. His injures will heal and go away, when the doctor says enough, then it is enough. Now that your son has been exposed, he will need help getting weaned off them and make sure you lock up all your drugs. Education is the key. You are a chronic pain sufferer, your child has seen you in pain. My children have also seen me in pain all there life's and they have been educated since day one what drugs are, even the ones that are socially acceptable that people use everyday . Now might be a good time you educate yourself on the daily household stuff kids are and have been using for years to get that feeling they are seeking. Specially now he has been exposed and sound like he is addicted to all ready! Not sure why he was given such drugs for his tonsils.....as soon as he kid says it helps his mood would of been the time I took them away. No we do not know how much pain someone is in, but we do no that people will abuse anything that makes them feel good. If you are around others who are chronic pain sufferers you too have seen as I have these junkies...... Hope your son does not have to many bad side effects from withdrawals. If you give in, this is your child's future. BTW I was a child who was put on nice pain meds when younger (same pain problems I have today) my parents seen what was going on and yanked my pills. This taught me to go as long as possible with the pain before anything was taken, I now thank my parents for doing what they did, though I hated them at the time. As your child may hate you. Good luck and wish you two well!

Talk to your doctor immediately about what is happening. I know a guy who was addicted to pain meds for thirty years (he had no problem getting prescriptions because he suffered chronic pain). Finally he had to recognize the problem and go to detox and sign a form with his doctor forbidding any doctor to prescribe him them ever again.

Nip the problem in the bud before it becomes much harder to deal with. Good luck!

You should really see your healthcare provider. Lortab can be extremely addicting and I have known people who were taking upwards of 30 tabs in a single day. They were given methadone to help them break their cycle. Tell your doc whats going on and he can help you.

it's just the nature of the beast, yo. i had the same thing, not as bad tho, when i was on tylenol 3 after my appendectomy. aside from walking like an old man everywhere, i got these strong withdrawal headaches from the stuff when i stopped taking them. just stop taking them. get rid of them now. each pill you take makes it so much harder to quit. just gotta tough it out. this addiction will ruin you if you don't treat it as life threatening--which it is.

you need to get rid of them. If you are still having pain, go to the doctor and get something else. In fact you probably should go to the doctor anyway. He may be able to help you get on a program to quit, or give you something to help you quit.
