i am trying to do an engineering drawing, and i have to include a knurled screw. how would you draw this? do you need to do cross-hatched lines to specify the knurled surface?

I agree with the above answer except I would only cross hatch the lower portion but the cross hatching would be close together maybe 2-3 millimetre apart and the upper portion would "fade" to indicate that it continued above the area shown

In my day yes you would cross hatch the whole or part of the surface to clearly indicate a knurled finish
