Hook up the DVD using the component video cables. Since your Samsung plasma has more than one input, if your cable is digital and it also has component out, use those. If not use S-video if available. Worst case scenario, use the coax cable.

Component video cables have 3 cables, with a red, green and blue RCA connectors on the end. They're the best analog quality you can get and will take advantage of the TV's capabilities if your DVD player is progressive scan.

You didn't mention a cable box - do you have a cable card in your tv?

Your plasma tv will have multiple inputs, so you can connect both devices directly to the tv.

Use the best cables for your available connections (Best -HDMI, DVI, Component, S-video, standard red/white/yellow - worst)

If you have hdmi inputs on your plasma and an hd cable box, use an hdmi cable from the cable box to the tv. Same thing with the dvd player - if it has a hdmi output, use that to connect to the tv.

hope this helps...
