To draw us closer to God- for He has made us for him. And those who are in need the most, seem to seek God the most...it is when those who are doing well and enjoying life that seem to leave God out...But then I do know some christians who are doing great and continue to praise God for their success...God knows who truly love Him- and He does bless them. I do not have a lot- and I do not have a lot of money that is for sure- but I will continue to praise the Lord- even during the bad times.
Matthew 5:3
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
-It is all about Jesus- Once you grasp that, or become saved through Him, understanding salvation things become a lot more clearer as to what life is all about, and the way you look at it.

>> In life there is positive and negative. Do either matter?
Both matter. Otherwise electrons and positrons wouldn't attract one another, hence ruining our model of the atom.
>> Is a life of poverty, illness, and pain worth being in love?
Depends how much you value love in comparison to the others. Personally, I think love is worth it.
>> Do the positive and negative equate to eachother in any way or proportion?
In terms of electromagnetism, yes. They are equal forces.
>> What is the bottom line in life, if there is one?
Draw your own conclusions. If you want your life to be meaningful, do something meaningful.
>> Can the answerer dismiss a life of drug-induced bliss as invalid for any reason?
It wouldn't be meaningful. It'd feel darn good - but it certainly wouldn't be meaningful.

There is no positive or negative really. It is really just what you interpret it as. If you interpret a life of drug induced bliss as the way for you then it is. Is it the way for everyone? No. You ask if a life of poverty, illness and pain is worth it if you are in love and I would have to ask if you want to be in poverty, illness and pain while in love. It is possible to have both.

Your question ultimately is: Is the universe fair? The answer is: No.
There's no fairness in the universe, nor is there some great cosmic balancer that comes along when we die to set things right.
"You know, um… I used to think that it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe. " -- Marcus Cole, An'la'shak, "Babylon 5", episode: A Late Delivery From Avalon, Season 3, Episode 13

life is what you make it and how you perceive it as well if you make life painful and perceive it as painful then it will be painful but if you perceive life as great and make your life great then it will be great although there are gonna be sometimes when life will throw you a curveball when you're looking for a fastball but in the end if you decide not to let any and everything bother you then nothing will bother you but if you let everything and anything bother you then you will constantly be bothered by life

I endured a lot of abuse as a child, but I would say for me, yes it was worth it. I live a very happy life now. I suppose it is up to the person to make those decisions for themselves. I would say that most people would tell you it’s worth it, as none of them have killed themselves yet.
