I have a lovely Pomeranian male, 10 mos old. I work fulltime and he is home alone. Someone suggested that I look into dogsharing. A friend of mine actually did that with his dog since he was a Pilot and traveled often. They would split time with the dog, however, he would still pay for the food, grooming, and vet bills.

Anyway, I can't get in contact with him to ask more details about it, so I thought someone out there may have done this? Should there be a contract written? Any opinions on whether it is a good idea or not?

He gets lots of love when I am home, but I hate to know that he is there alone while I am at work.

Thanks for your input!

I've never heard of that but it doesn't sound like a bad idea if you do it with someone you know, like family or a close friend. However doing that with a stranger might not be such a good idea. How long is your dog left home alone? Most dogs don't mind being left alone if their use to it and if it isn't for an extremely long time. But if you really think your dog needs to be with someone while your gone you could look into professional dog day care type services, that will keep your dog while your away. Usually dogs actually do better being at home alone though then being in an unfamiliar place with people they don't know. It's alot less stressful on them just to let them say home unless their showing symptoms of separation anxiety.

Personally....I would leave the dog with someone you know. If that is an issue, they do have dog play camps where owners drop off thieir dogs in the morning and head off to work and pick them up at afternoon. The dog stays at the camp with other dogs. Some camps reccomend that you bring along toys/bets that your dog has at home so there is a comfort level.

Your dog probably really doesn't mind being home alone....Most dogs sleep an average of 20 hours a day anyway. I probably wouldn't consider letting someone else keep my dog, as you never know what kind of atmosphere your getting the furkid into. As long as he gets plenty of exercise and love when you are home...he's doing just fine the way things are!

I've never heard of that, but it sounds like a great idea! I would definitely get something in writing, that way you are covered if things go awry later on.

It might be a great situation for someone who needs a playmate for their dog.

Never heard of it, but it sounds like a decent idea. I would do it with someone you already know, like a relative, friend, or neighbor.
