Ignorance

What they thought they knew has been brought into question, or prove en wrong and their arrogance refuse to be bested so they drop down another 100 points and attack!

Too many people, have only word of mouth, for the authority of their views. When these views are challenged with recognized authoritative source, instead of learning, or leaving open the door for their own research, they react like all animals that have been backed it to a corner!

When my mother and father fought with one another, they called each other stupid, among other bad words. I learned from them, so I made personal attacks a part of expressing my feelings.

When I got married, I had to re-learn how to have an argument in such a way that it didn't damage my relationship with my wife. I'm grateful for the knowledge.

People use personal attacks because they see them elsewhere. It's a mark of enlightenment to learn not to do that, and it's quite difficult to retrain in my experience. It's natural to desire a double standard. People are naturally selfish. It's the animal in us all.

People don't attack other's people's opinions!!! I totally disagree and I would NEVER attack anyone! Geesh! This question is lame....

hahaahhaa just kidding...sorry I had to. But yeah I know what you mean...I think they attack it because of conviction- and then christians may attack something that is godless because they are defending the word. I do my best not to attack, but say what I know is best to say from the Bible...I would much rather give God's word than my own.

Maturity. They do not (at least as of yet) have the tools to express themselves in a manner that is not attacking. They may also not fully believe or understand their stance and it is easier to put others down than to try to defend what they only partially understand. The bully in the school yard often feels badly about themselves, so to build themselves up they pull others down....

Plain Ignorance

Stop dealing with those selfish ingrates. If somebody attacks your personabilites, that points to unresolved issues within themseleves that they need to deal with. They must first love themself and then love others like they love themself. If they have hate and want to share it, that is up to you if you want to be around that. You make choices of who you hang around. We can't help you there. The double standard exists for liars, hypocriates, cheaters, and emotinal illusionists to just name a few. In life there can be no double standard, unless you must bend the playing field in your favor. This to me exemplifies weakness. Struggle defines strength. Dont deal with it if you dont have to playa!! And you dont have to put up with anything you didn't agree with or to in the first place.

It is a prime example of a childish mentality that a vocal few have on Answers. Where they are 'big and brave' with their repulsive language and/or views, but if they actually had to directly face the person it is directed to would be unlikely to be the same. my opinion is ignore them and only bother with the people who can actually give an opinion without expletives or personal comments!!

It's easier and sometimes more fun than coming up with an actual argument. People are emotional beings, not just logic robots. Sometimes people identify so strongly with their opinions that they can't separate themselves from them. They take criticism of the idea to be a criticism of them.

Because people are insecure, and when they cannot attack another's beliefs, however absurd they may be or appear, they attack what is more readily available, the person with the disagreed upon beliefs.
