Do you mean the conservatives right to destroy the environment, or their right to exploit illegal immigrant labor, the right to control the reproduction of others. I think it is because these things infringe upon the rights of the rest of us

It protects ALL Civil Liberties.
Of course when the Conservatives launch their periodic smear campaigns against the ACLU they conveniently neglect to mention the cases where the ACLU has protected the free-speech and religious rights of Conservative groups.
But then they also ignore all the stories except the ones such as the infamous Nambla case, or the Boy Scouts which are usually twisted out of shape.
Or, they ascribe trivial or controversial case to the ACLU when the ACLU isn't even involved.
The real question, therefore, is why are Conservatives so threatened by the idea that people have Civil Rights in the first place?

While I am not a fan of the ACLU, their intent is to protect civil liberties of all people as spelled out in the constitution. I think they sometimes go over the edge a little.

We all have the same liberties. There are no "Conservative" and "liberal" civil liberties. As citizens of this country we are all afforded the same civil liberties. I believe that the ACLU works to protect the civil liberties of everyone. The question then becomes why do -you- feel as if your civil liberties aren't protected? I have no idea which civil liberties you think are being violated, but I am curious to know. Perhaps what you construe as protection is actually harmful to you.

sure, the ACLU sought out a instructor keen to project the regulation. i'm uncertain how that interprets into the regulation not being a constitutional violation. additionally, regardless of whether the regulation banned coaching something approximately evolution or purely human evolution, the regulation did restrict the coaching of "any theory that denies the story of the Divine introduction of guy as taught interior the Bible, and to coach somewhat that guy has descended from a decrease order of animals." Does this sound like suitable coaching to you? Does it sound like some thing which would be allowed below the form? finally, i'm unable to discover everywhere interior the link you provided to declare that the ACLU sued a extreme college for coaching bearing directly to the Precambrian era. Did that someway get ignored, or did it on no account surely happen?

The ACLU protects the Liberties of all citizens. They waged legal battles against portions of the Patriot act and won in a court of Law. No government can demand the telephone records of all US citizens with out a Court Order....the court ruled in favor of the ACLU...two times.
The Present Administration has invaded the privacy of millions of US citizens without a court order. A dark day for AT and T, Verizon and many other communications companies. The communications companies have flooded their customers with Privacy Statements.....better late than never.
Also, You don't hear any more nonsense about the right to bear arms. The last line of defense is the American people against a terror attack. The NRA will insure that this country is not over thrown by terrorists or dictators. That was the Intention of the Founding Fathers.
Take the time to read the Legal Briefs that the ACLU uses in the courts..... It is all about Freedom and civil Liberties.
You are able to ask questions and offer answers to questions in this forum, largely because of the efforts of the ACLU.
This is not about Liberals, Not about Conservatives.
It is all about You...Your Freedoms and Your Civil Liberties.

What they defend is a person's "right" to do whatever they want without thinking of the consequences. With any right comes responsibility. They don't want to think about that. The ACLU is not interested in anything moral, just what feels good.

The ACLU is not out to protect 'civil liberties' they are simply out to promote their political opinions. If your liberties are not something that are in accordance with the liberties they feel you should have - you are out of luck.
When was the last time the defended the second amendment?

The ACLU tends to represent the opinions of its members who tend to be liberal. The ACLU is concerned with protecting a set of rights associated with secular humanism. They look for arguments they can use to associate their set of beliefs with the constitution. People who are genuinely concerned with the constitution and the rule of law can not in good faith belong to the ACLU. Lawyers who are opposed to the living constitution theory tend to belong to the Federalist Society.
The right you are probably speaking about is the right to bear arms . This right is grounded in the religious belief that people have a right to defend their persons and property because individuals have value. Secular Humanists do not believe in a right to self-defense. The predominant theory from the left is that the right to bear arms applies to state governments and since the civil war showed that states can't be trusted with their own militias it is inappropriate to vest that power with states.

In 1931, a special committee of the U.S. House of Representatives stated: " The American Civil Liberties Union is closely affiliated with the communist movement in the United States, and fully 90 percent of its efforts are on behalf of communists who have come into conflict with the law. It claims to stand for free speech, free press, and free assembly, but it is quite apparent that the main function of the ACLU is to attempt to protect the communists in their advocacy of force and violence to overthrow the government, replacing the American flag by a red flag and erecting a Soviet government (in its place)..."

"Do you mean the conservatives right to destroy the environment, or their right to exploit illegal immigrant labor, the right to control the reproduction of others. I think it is because these things infringe upon the rights of the rest of us"
Oh, FFS - grow up! Do you honestly believe that not one single Democrat ever uses illegals? I know a lot of very Conservative people and not one of them is anti-environment. Quit pulling left-wing talking points off the Internet and think for yourself!
Sorry - I digressed, but DAMN. Ignorance of that level is just amazing.
As to the ACLU, they are a bunch of hypocrites. They claim to be fighting for civil rights, but they tried to stifle dissent from their own board. (Link below to related story)
They are constantly trying to erase Christianity from the public eye, yet they have no problem with religious symbols of Hanukkah and Ramadan. This is why a lot of people now call the ACLU the Anti-Christian Lawyers Union.
"A policy that allows the display in New York City schools of a menorah as a symbol of Hanukkah and the star and crescent as a symbol of Ramadan but prohibits display of a creche, or nativity scene, as a symbol of Christmas has been upheld by a federal appellate court." (See 2nd link below)
The founder of the ACLU was a communist, and made absolutely NO bones about it. (see third link below)
"I am for socialism, disarmament and ultimately for abolishing the state itself as an instrument of violence and compulsion. I seek social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and sole control by those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal." - ACLU Founder Roger Baldwin
"The American Civil Liberties Union is Roger Baldwin" - former ACLU counsel Arthur Garfield Hays
Since the ACLU's founder had *no* interest in Conservative liberties, it's of no surprise to me that they don't represent them. Besides, any group who defends pedophiles "rights" to kiddie porn is a group I think most Conservatives would rather avoid. How vile can you get??
