The Bible- John 1:1,14. See also Revelation 1:8,18 ("the Almighty..was dead, and..alive forevermore")

There's abundant manuscript evidence for the way that it is translated, but not for the addition of a participle ("a god"/Watchtower translation of Jehovah's Witnesses). If you are in doubt, check out the credentials of the translators and the ancient writings themselves.

You have left out the rest of the passage.

2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

then in 14 it says:
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

This word created all things and was the only begotten of the Father. This Word was Jesus. The scriptures make that clear.

"the Word was God" is improper english.

Just as it is improper to say "Snoopy was dog"

Proper English requires "a" in both sentences.

"the Word was a god". this means that God the Father did not become flesh, therefore he did not die.

Your question is a good example of why the NWT is a better translation of the Holy Scriptures.

Rev 1:8, Jehovah God (God Almighty) is speaking (See verse 1 of Rev. chapter 1)

Being the Alpha and Omega, isn't the same as being the first and the last.

Jesus did die, God can never die.
