Some kind of salad as appetizer - entree -, or something salty like small pies. Main course - plat principal - normally has meat or fish, sometimes both. There is always some kind of vegetable, potatoes, beans or noodles. After main course there might be green salad, - salade verte - and then dessert. If you are in Lyon, you might have two desserts, something sweet.
First water and then wine to accompany food. And you always have bread at the table, sometimes cheese after the main dish.
A cup of espresso or coffee to finalize the occasion accompanied sometimes with cognac or armagnac or a sweet liqueur.
But in old movies you might see people just eat noodles every night.
