They are feeble. They require assurance that there is something else. They can't handle the notion that this is all there is... They're week, scared, and blissfully ignorant, even though there will always be that pit of doubt in the back of their minds.

People associate optimism with happiness. Pessimists are the happiest people in the world: 90% of the time theyre right, and the other 10% of the time they're pleasantly surprised. Calling atheists pessimistic though, Then we're sure in for the other 10%, and unfortunately, it won't be a pleasant surprise for them.

I'm an atheist, and actually, the fact that death is the end of my journey doesn't make me pessimistic. True, religion can be comforting when you lose a loved one (my dad, for instance), but you have to get on with life. We only live once, so we'd better make the best of it and ACT instead of waiting for some reward in an hypothetical life - which doesn't mean you don't have morals and follow the law.

Why is atheism inherently pessimistic? We're the ones that believe in the inner good of people to control their lives. Christians are the ones that are convinced that people are all sinners and deserve to go to hell... if atheism is pessimistic, what does that make Christianity?!

I don’t think it is pessimistic. What’s pessimistic about it; the fact that we don’t buy into the idea that we somehow survive our death and are immortal? That’s not pessimism, it’s just realistic.

Some believe that human beings will become gods themselves, but most Christians would say that’s blasphemous and wrong. To the person who believes it, the Christian is a pessimist.

I don't think Atheism is pessimistic. It's much more pessimistic to think "Hey, everyone in this planet is a sinner before they're born, we need some magic being in the sky to make us better, otherwise we're worthless."

People need to feel that there is some reason for living. That life is for something. They can't believe that we might just be here for nothing. Just another carbon based animal.

Although, I do think that pessimism isn't too good for mental health. Being optimistic helps us stay sane. Otherwise, we would have all killed ourselves long ago.

What a miserable way to live always seeing your cup half empty. I think it takes up way more energy to be a pessimist, not for me no thank you.

we have only so much time allowed for negativity, optimism is the only option left after that. what's wrong is your glass half empty? do you need a refill of syrupy goodness from the kindness jar?
