Christmas is always stressful for me because of money. I haven't been able to work for a while because of a medical condition plus I'm a college student so I'm already poor. So basically all my saved money is gone, and my credit cards are practically maxed (my bfs birthday was last week). My mom told me to quit my job earlier in the fall due to the stress affecting my health. She said she would rather give me money than have me work and suffer from it. But now I need money and whenever I bring it up she just makes me feel guilty. She has the money, my family isn't struggling. Whenever my older brother calls her he asks for money and she shells it out. So why is it different for me?

This is just my opinion, but it's easy to ask for money without guilt. But you have to understand a few simple rules:

(1) They can either say "Yes" or "No". So right off the bat, you've got a 50% chance.
(2) Just explain to them that you are having a hard time. If they try to put a guilt trip on you, don't buy into it.
(3) Ask her point blank why she gives money easily to your brother, but not to you? That should shift the guilt back onto her.

and finally:

(4) Look into other ways to make money, as a backup in case (1) - (3) don't work.

it's different because you have pride (and that's not a bad thing)... you feel you should be the one taking care of you parents now (though they may not be that old either...) for anybody who asks money from any body should feel a li'l bit of guilt, if not guilt, may be shame and/or embarrassment...you just feel that you should be able to help yourself, that's why you feel guilty.. maybe you should've had maxed ur card for ur bf's bday if you knew ur gonna be short in the first place...
