This is an excellent question. The fact you asked it is an indication that you don't fit into the bible scriptures at:
Matt 24: 3-14, describing what the world will be like in the last days of the system that now operates.
2 Tim 3:1-5 describing what people will be like in the last days of the system that now operates
The Religious wars that mark the end of this system as we know it is the beginning of Armageddon. When you see the United Nations rise up against the organized religions of the world, that is the beginning of the great war and there will be only one surviving organization, God's organization.
If you pray and ask for direction you will get it. Keep your mind open and you will recognize the truth when you see it, get anchored in it and hold on.

Because on one end of the spectrum people know that religion has caused death and wars and endless persecution in the name of god. and on the other end some people are so religious that they fail to see that they might not be correct and that they need to live and let live.
I get mad when I see questions from some religious freak saying something about how everyone is going to hell because they don't believe in jesus or something.
I've got news for you: Your god (whatever your religion) would be a shitty god if they only let one group into heaven because they believed the right thing in life. What about people that never had a chance to hear about certain religions- should they intrinsically know that jesus was their savior?
Basically people are ignorant and closed minded. And in the US they are getting stupider and stupider with all the TV and bullshit.

people who get angry over religion often dont want to hear the truth. because they want to do the things they should not. and hearing the truth torments their soul. They become afraid of what will happen so they do their best not to her it so they dont have to think about it. that way they can continue to do wrong without much or any guilt. most of us have authority issues as well. They have enough rules to live by in there minds let alone the laws of some GOD we can not see. also religion is not a man made concept it becan because other gods forced it on mankind.

You mean, religion of man because God don't have religion. Religion is man-made concepts of who God is and not the truth.
Religion is traditional, as you believe a religion was formed by men in Jesus's name while ignoring the deeper truths Jesus lived and preached.
Jesus once stated, "If the blind lead the blind, they both will fall into a ditch."

My mother always told me not to talk about religion or politics because people have strong opinions on both and they will become angry.
However, I sometimes can't help myself and I talk about both subjects and people do get offended. But what can we do? Keep our opinions to ourselves all the time? I think not!
I might not always agree with people's opionions but I am so glad that I live in a society where we can debate freely without any real violence, just a few thumbs down here and there.

Could be that some are offended no matter what you say or the way you ask. Others might "read" the question and think you are trying to instigate something.
Reminds me of a story: A young man from a far off village approached the gate to an old city, and encountered a wise man sitting there. "Tell me, sir, I just moved here, what kind of people live here?" The wise man replied, "What kind of people lived in your village?" "They were kind, honest, loving and trusting people", was the young man's answer. "Enter the city, you will find the same people here" said the old man.
Another man from the same village approached the wise man, and asked the same question. "What kind of people lived in your village?" asked the wise man. "Well", replied the villager, "they lied, stole, drank, and you could not trust them at all" answered the villager. "Enter the city, you will find the same people here" spoke the wise man.

Because mostly people ask them in an insulting way or try to stamp their limited views on other religions. I mean I know more about my religion than a person who belongs to a different one. This is not true in all cases but even if a person studies a religion but doesn't belong to it, in most cases he/she will have a bias view towards it. But if aksed in a civilized and respectful way, then openminded folks should not have a problem explaining or giving their views on it. :)

Well if it is designed to insight they should expect it. It is not a matter of religion but rather a life style. So a loaded or insulting question is an affront to their "my" believes.
If it is one asked in the sense of spreading the word or an honest question. People who are intolerant of religion attack it. That is the sadness of the Internet world haters can ran free.

Because the mass majority of religious people negate reasoning to embrace the literal interpretation of the scriptures. Religious fundamentalists don't know as they should know, so when questioned about things outside of their paganisitic rituals and traditions they become confrontational because it reveals a great void in their understanding. So they are left confront themselves about the missing concepts they do not have. Few are willing to unloose their mind of the elementary concepts of their religion and climb to a higher rung on Jacobs ladder.

Because these days religion is a touchy subject--everyone has their own opinions on it and everyone thinks their own opinions are correct. I don't think there's any harm in having a neutral, friendly discussion about religion, but a lot of people don't know how to respect the opinions of others.
