I've just finished to paint the ceiling in the living room and didn't realise that there was a kind og paper covering the whole ceiling and now it has started to bulge, will it straighten out when the paint has dried? I used water based paint is that the reason? I'm also going to paint the ceiling in the hall anything I can do to prevent it from bulging? Please help

it should dry out.give it a day or two.dont even dream about stripping your ceiling,it will be a nightmare.if y have to ,take off the loose bits, paint and see what its like.if needed when dry y could touch up needy spots with filler or texture paint if its not very noticeable leave well alone, chances y are the only one who will notice it as y know its there.MOTO:LEAVE WELL ALONE

I have done a lot of painting recently. No, the paper bulge on the ceiling will not go away once dry. To fix the problem, I would 1)wait until it dries 2) use a paint scraper or putty knife to scrape off the part that is bulging 3)sand down any rough edges with a simple sanding block 4)repaint area in matching ceiling paint, or repaint whole ceiling with textured paint so as to conceal the imperfections! Also, before you paint the other ceiling, I would definitely try to strip the paper off first!!!!!

It will likely shrink back as it was when the paint dries. If it is a paper lining applied to the ceiling it just just hasn't been done very well and the paper isn't stuck well to the ceiling all over. In the hall same may occur, if it's papered (maybe it's not?) and not stuck properly. Little you can do because anything you apply is going to be wet.... but will dry and should shrink back taught. :-)

Water base is the right choice. Let it dry completely before continuing, just in case there is a problem. The biggest mistake people make is over-rolling on a ceiling. Put it on and move on. Once the paint wets the ceiling the tape, mud, popcorn or whatever, it softens it and rolling it over and over will sometimes be enough for the texturing to come loose.
Good luck!

OK is there a way to take off the paper if there is do that first or your ceiling will be wrinkled if not than after you are done painting and letting that dry texture the ceiling with popcorn spray or orange peel spray it will hide the wrinkles and make the ceiling even. you can get this stuff in spray cans or bags at any local home centers.

If it doesn't smoothout after it has dried, then you will have to strip the paper of the ceiling , and repaint it. It is the only way to do a good job.

Painting over paper always looks a little bumpy, but once its dried, it should smooth out!
