Could be boredom but it's most likely it's either fleas (you don't always have to see them, just one flea can drive a dog nuts) or a type of mange or ringworm infection (they're not really worms!). In any case you should get him/her to a vet for evaluation. Mange and ringworm both need to be treated by a vet. Any home treatments you find won't work..plus, there could be other more serious reasons too like kidney disorders and things. It's not worth risking it if you love your pet. Also, if it does turn out to be fleas, the vet sells great new flea treatments that you put on just once a month. The over the counter ones never work.. don't waste your money! Best of luck and happy holidays!

It could be fleas and the bites are irritating enough that she continues to chew until the hair is gone.
Also, some dogs have what's called "hot spots". That patches in their skin that are sensitive, allergic, or constantly irritated. The vet can advise as to a treatment to get it not to notice those places anymore.

Most of the time, chewing on fur is the result of an allergy. This can be treated, but it will require a trip to the vet. The vet will prescribe a steriod pill or cream, usually prednisone.

with out seeing the dogs, i don't rather understand, yet possibly she ought to basically have a epidermis hypersensitive reaction in that section? My German Shepherd has chewed/licked the undersides of his legs to the element the place the fur is incredibly sparse and his epidermis is purple and aggravated, because of the fact he has a epidermis hypersensitive reaction that's person-friendly in German Shepherds (purely like human beings get hayfever). we've switched him to a low-allergen dogs food and that seems to be helping him... We tried medicated dogs shampoos yet they had no effect. i don't understand if that is comparable to what your dogs has - it must be some thing thoroughly distinctive - yet that's all i will think of of. Is she an previous dogs or a youthful dogs?

If our Dachshund does this, we immediately treat for fleas. Our Doxie is highly allergic to the flea bites and we see the bald spots as evidence before we can even find a flea.

Either the dog might have a rash that it's
bitting or might have a bad case of fleas, and because of the fleas he might be having an allergic reaction.Either of them you should call your vet about it.
