For cheaper insurance, go for the middle engine size (Cavalier 1.6 or Fiesta 1.4), because it will use less fuel than the biggest engine and not be a slug like the smallest engine.

Also, go for the 4-door saloon or 5-door hatchback or estate, because insurers think they are less sporty and they get crashed less often. They are easier to load kids and their stuff, instead of the 2-door coupe or 3-door hatchback versions.

Also, consider 3rd party liability insurance only, because if an old car gets stolen, burned or crashed, the insurance payout and loss of no-claims discount may work out to be less than the car is worth.

Depends how old you are.

You're probably looking at about £1,000 for first time round but if you are over 30 you may be ok and get it for less.

Go on www.confused.com and enter the details of the type of car you might get and you will get a list of companies with their quotes

depends alot on the car..keep the engine size to a minimum and avoid hot hatches go for conservative and practical and well built , german springs to mind, that will keep your entire running costs not only insurance down and with places like eurocarparts bits are cheap for continental better built cars and sometimes as they prove to be safer you can insure them for surprisingly less than you may expect
