I have a 89 Honda Accord and the speakers was replaced before I got the car with some Jensons 120W speakers all 4, I bought the car and found the origianal radio was going bad and replaced it with a 200W Panasonic. my radio volume goes to 40 but when I go above 30 the sound starts to blurr out. Do I need a amp? or what should I do to fix my problem.
I don't want any stupid answers Please

yeah you will probably need an Amp if you are not happy with the volume the 200W head unit is not pushing 50W to each speaker its more like 18-22w per speaker and those jensens depending on what size and RMS rating might not be getting enough power from your head unit so maybe like 100watt 2channel or 4 channel amp would work best.
oh and by the way that guy is somewhat right about not being able to blow the speakers with not enough power thats true with regular mid and high frequency speakers like the ones you have but low frequency speakers (Subwoofers) you can because they require a specific amount of power to push out the low frequencies.

best bet is get an amp your head unit may not have enough power by itself. If you keep on cranking it up like this you may blow out your speakers due to under powering them. Funny as it sounds you should always over power your speakers so that the reserve power is there when you need it plus you wont have to crank your radio all the way up to hear it loud. Check your speakers for RMS power handling before you buy an amp because the 120W is peak. On your new amp also look at RMS power @ 4 ohms that will be the amount of power to each speaker constantly

Well, most systems should not be turned that high. You are over powering the speakers. It's just like your car... the speedo might say 130 mph, but that doesn't mean you stomp on the gas til you get there.
My advise to you is to take your car to an audio installer and tell them what you'd like to hear when you turn it all the way to 40, and purchase whatever they offer to get you there.

It could be clipping, just plain distortion or too much power going to the speakers.

You can't blow speakers by underpoering them. If this were true, then I (and everyone else) would have blown speakers a long time ago by turning the volume down. Low volume, low power.
You CAN blow speaker by over powering them.
