We've narrowed it down to GMC Sonoma, Dodge Dakota, Toyota Tacoma, or Nissan Fronteir. Ford Rangers are out. I was thinking of the Dodge, but there's a really high number of those on www.autotrader.ca which makes me think nobody likes them and are all trying to get rid of them. Anyone have any thoughts, opinions, or suggestions, I'm listening.

Thanks to the guy who suggested I steal one, but I'm gonna go with the serious answers here. And since we went with a 1995 Dakota (it was the cheapest one that looked good) that's where the vote goes to.

I would get the Dodge Dakota. It is probably the most durable.

Toyota...

1) Higher Resale
2) MUCH Higher Quality

4 cylinder will be the most reliable (compared to V6)...

Nissans are problematic at best, Dodge's are notorious gasket burners and Sonoma is uninspired, but probably a servicable truck.

Toyota - most reliable of the bunch, holds value

GMC - old, underpowered, poor quality interiors, depreciation
Dodge - wheezy motors and typical poor quality, depreciation
Nissan - redesign a big improvement, and a close second choice

Ford trucks are very reliable, my explorer is a 99 and never had any problems. But if you are set against ford, the Toyota is the next best thing, thy come with a very nice suspension.

Good luck - oh yes a respray is always a good idea and new plates.

I had a nice 91 Ford Ranger.... Probably very cheap now, and if you can find one around 90k-100k miles that should do well for you.
